What our government doesn't understand, is while it might be effective for thousands, millions, this is my life that's endangered. Why does the government value the ozone more than human life? More than my life? Why do I have to live in constant fear of death now because of a minuet distinction? I've used entire proventil inhalers are once and had to be hospitalized because I couldn't get the relief I did from one dose of the old albuterol inhalers. I live every day feeling that I KNOW how I'll die now. Danielle Tobias, NY 8/28/09
I have an old CFC-based Albuterol HCL inhaler that gives me instant relief on the first application. I also have one of the new albuterol sulfate HFA inhalers that doesn't give me but 10-20% relief after three or four applications. BRING BACK THE ORGINAL FORMULA- PEOPLE'S LIVES ARE IN JEOPARDY! Shane Justice, AZ 8/27/09
I discovered this MDI problem within the past two weeks when my new allergist prescribed Ventolin HFA as my rescue inhaler. Up until the age of 30 I had been a severe asthmatic. Then I was put on Advair and I haven't had any symptoms of asthma for almost a decade. I always carried a rescue inhaler (Alupent with CFCs) and took it prior to exercising just to be safe. It has worked very well for me for decades. Last week, I took the new Ventolin HFA inhaler prior to exercising and noticed it would exacerbate my breathing. Then my doctor switched me to Proair HFA and I ended up having a two day long asthma attack. The Proair would give me some relief for about 5-10 minutes and then the HFAs would cause my symptoms to worsen. It got so bad that I had to use the albuterol nebulizer solution and
medrol dosepak (prednisone). This whole situation makes me furious. Please bring back the CFC MDIs! William Halliday, AZ 8/27/09
The Proair HFA inhaler I've been using isn't nearly as effective as the old CFC version and is much more expensive. People are suffering needlessly, some even dying because of this change. Tricia Segatto, CA 8/24/09
I've had Asthma for sixty years. I felt the terror of struggling for breath for decades since age seven, until the dawn of the rescue inhaler. The HFA Albuterol inhaler does not afford quick rescue. I cannot venture into extreme weather. At age 68, lack of oxygen could result in a life-threatening or ending cardiac event. Congress, the Senate and the FDA must reverse this CFC ban to protect the lives of millions of asthmatics. It is inhumane to make us suffer! Please let us safely continue to live our lives. I implore you!DO SOMETHING NOW! Constance Arena, NY 8/24/09
None of the CFC-FREE inhalers I have work. I don't have insurance or make much money. I now have to decide if I should spend more money on inhalers that either don't work properly or at all. Jeremy Douglas, TN 8/23/09
I have copd and the new albuterol hfa simply do not work well for my severe shortness of breath. The cfc inhalers gave me much quicker and longer relief. Karen Williams, AR 8/23/09
I have complained about the HFA inhalers, to my doctor, pharmacists, insurance provider, BBB, and the FDA. Our complaints are falling on deaf ears. The HFA propellants do not work even near 20% of the effectiveness of the CFC propellants, and most of the time, they don't work at all! I don't understand how the FDA can so easily take the deceptive word of the pharmaceutical companies, and not give any credibility to all the patients who have asthma. The pharmaceutical companies tell doctors and pharmacists that the only time the propellant is in-effective is when it is not used properly! THIS IS COMPLETELY FALSE!! They claim that if the canister is washed properly, (wrong!) and when using their inhaler, you need to take a deep breath and hold it in for at least 10 seconds, they say this should work. WHEN YOU ARE HAVING AN ASTHMA ATTACK, IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO DO THIS!! These inhalers are used for emergency attacks and don't work. Even their HFA inhalers used as a daily preventative do not work as effectively as the CFC inhalers used to. After this change, my preventative medication had to be changed from 44 mcg, two puffs twice a day to 110 mcg, two puffs twice a day. My asthma attacks are still more frequent since this change in the propellant. It is incredible the amount of power these pharmaceutical companies have on our government agencies and deplorable that asthmatics continue to suffer from their deception and inability to provide an effective replacement. THE FDA MUST RE-ADDRESS ALLOWING THE CFC PROPELLANT TO BE USED FOR ASTHMATIC INHALERS, UNTIL A SAFER, EFFECTIVE REPLACEMENT IS FOUND. Karen Basmagy, CA 8/22/09
I received my first CFC-free inhaler this year, after all of my other CFC inhalers ran out. I have only used it twice, and I am fearing for my life. My old CFC albuterol inhaler opened up my lungs and made me feel better almost immediately. After going through the process of priming the new Ventolin HFA inhaler as instructed, I took my first puff - and felt like my lungs caught fire. Instead of opening my airways, I felt tight, burning pain. And when I used it a second time this morning, the sensation was repeated - and has lasted for nearly an entire day. What kind of moron puts ETHANOL in something that will go into your lungs? I frequently take car trips, but honestly, I am now deathly afraid of getting too far from a hospital. Diana Staresinic-Deane, KS 8/22/09
I am very much pro eco-friendly. I recycle everything I possibly can and do anything I can to keep my carbon footprint as minimal as possible. Unfortunately, I have asthma and since I was switched to Pro-Air my asthma is NOT under control. I have been doing my own "experiment" and when I use my old albuterol inhaler I can get relief, when I use Pro-Air, I don't. I understand the effort to make the inhalers more environmentally friendly, however it should not be at the cost of anyone's ability to breathe. Emily Cassidy MA,LPC, IL 8/17/09
Up until January 2009, I lived a normal and active life living with asthma. At that time, I was prescribed the new HFA inhaler, which does nothing to relieve my symptoms. Along with an increasingly poor quality of life, I am wasting my money on an expensive, inefficient "inhaler". Does our government even care? Ms. Siobhan Woods, NY 8/16/09
I have well controlled moderate asthma and my son has somewhat controlled severe asthma. I am an environmentalist at heart. I feel that there are SO many other things that we could do to protect the ozone aside from making the older inhalers illegal. It was a good idea that didn't work in real life. Isn't there something that we could do about this mistake? Lori Leyba, CO 8/15/09
The new HFA inhalers DO NOT for a lot of people! The FDA is putting asthma suffers at risk of injury or death.
Mark S. Leyba, CO 8/15/09
The new inhalers clog all the time. Even when I rinse out the plastic part, it doesn't clear up enough to allow the medicine to come out properly. I am not getting the right dose and am afraid to use more in case of overdosage. The old inhalers NEVER gave me any problems! My family and I will not hesitate to bring up a lawsuit in the event the new inhalers cause me harm. Franca Schepis, CA 8/14/09
I desperately need the old albuteral inhalers. I have complained to my docter ever since they removed all the CFC inhalers. I am not breathing very good...I wheeze and my customers here me and look at me funnt. We need the CFC inhalers back...I agree with clean air...but these are medically needed. Thank you. Mrs Deborah Lori, WI 8/14/09
Because of the ineffectiveness of the HFA inhaler's, I am now forced to use a nebulizer 4-5 times a day. I can't go anywhere without having to lug the machine around with me. It's ridiculous! Lisa Staubach, OH 8/14/09
I have exercised induced asthma and only need to use an inhaler occasionally but after being switched to the Proair inhaler I noticed that I needed to use it much more often. Also my first Proair inhaler seemed to contain much less than the 200 puffs but I wasn't sure so then I started keeping track and I currently have one that has been used for 60 puffs and it seems like it is almost empty. This is unacceptable especially at the increased cost! Robert Kollinger, MI 8/10/09
"I have been medically retired from the US Navy at 60% disability due to my development of severe asthma. Just as my
treatment and post service care plan begins, the inhaler which dynamicly effects of my quality of life for the better, is
ripped from my hands. Instead I must pay double for a delivery system for my medication (HFA inhaler) that works about as well as breathing through a straw. I have put myself in harms way for nearly a decade for a government that will allow CFC in industrial bee repelent and photographic/mirror cleaning supplies, but bans them from life saving medical equipment. I am angry to say the least. Return the favor of my volunteer service, restart the production of the CFC MDI and help me rebuild my life one breath at a time." John J. Lombardo, NY #153
"My druggist no longer carries the CFC inhaler and I have switched to Proventil HFA -- it just does not work, is not
effective, no matter how many puffs I take. I've tried other combination inhalers and they do not work either. I'm over age 50 and I've dealt with asthma all my life. I am suffering constantly with the new medication and have missed a great deal of work because of asthma, far more than ever before. How can they do this to people who all ready are struggling to catch their breath?" Kathe Archambault, CA #266
"My girlfriend has been miserable since starting on this new inhaler, and I can't stand to see her like this. She needs
something better. Even if it has CFC's." Matthew Fox, FL # 339
"I cannot breath right and had to stop exercising since the inhalers were changed." Genevieve Guertin, CA #408
"Went from reasonable comfort level with discontinued type of inhaler to almost constant distress and discomfort with new HFA type. Not as effective." Robert Musgrave, MA #496
"This is the worst thing to happen to asthma sufferers. Many people will die and those who live will deal with life worse off due to increased breathing trouble." Amanda Lilley, MT #510
"The love of my life is suffering terribly without this medication. She wants to live a healthy and long life and I hate
seeing her suffer needlessly! Please help her and so many others to do this. Thank you." Cinthia Martindale, FL #529
"HFA inhalers DO NOT WORK. I have had more problems breathing since I switched over to these inhalers. I just feel like I can't really catch my breath." Renee, CO #540
"My friend is trying to raise a new baby, without having an inhaler that works, she can't give her all. Please keep these
inhalers available!" Tiffany, IA #560
"I've used a CFC inhaler as an emergency back-up for years, and it's always given me relief, but my new HFA inhaler sent me to the Emergency Room because it gave me a sore throat so bad that I could not even swallow water without immense pain. PLEASE allow CFC inhalers, some of us depend on them." Kate, ME #574
"I have tried the other inhalers and they are ineffective. This is my breath and my very life you are messing with!!" Susan Lundequam, MN #593
"I started using the new inhaler today and am very disgusted about this new change for i cannot breathe correctly right now. I am suffering very badly at this very moment and am appalled at the descision to take away a working medication I had for a substandard one that is causing irration to my throat and causing it to feel like it is closing at this momment." Jonathon Gubbe, WA #595
"My husband has a severe case of COPD. The ony inhaler worth a damn is the Warrick ALbuterol. Armstrong works for my asthma (mild case), and that HFA is good for nothing. We tried it once and it did nothing for him. Why are they messing with our lives when all these big rigs are spewing out all that black crap. They are not enforcing the catalytic convertor thing yet the little lifesaver we have in our inhalers is taboo.Come on big guys GIVE US BACK OUR WARRICK INHALERS!!!!! We are begging you, PLEASE!!!" Janice Riker, FL #627
"I am asthmatic and I miss my old inhaler. It works and this new one does not but it is all I can find. It is STUPID to think
that these tiny inhalers that are medically better than the new crap we are forced to buy at higher prices are dangerous to the ozone! I personally want access to my old CFC inhaler - period. It saved my life several times in the past and I don't trust this new crap. Leave the poor, sick and dying breathless people alone and help us for God's sake!"
Russ Steele, CO #638
"The newer style inhalers do not work nearly as well as the older style. It still feels like you are going to faint, like you
cannot breathe. Please help us keep the old style inhalers. It is very important." Tom Busby, CO #640
"One hour after taking Pro-Air, I am gasping for breathe. I don't care what the "experts" say - this stuff does not work! I
want my Warrick inhaler back." Irene Schusler, NY #656
"Please bring back my old Albuterol inhaler. I've tried the ProAir HFA and Xopenex and I am still wheezing and can't breathe. That in itself increases my anxiety and makes it even more difficult to breath. If you care at all about those who suffer with this life-threatening condition, you will do the right thing and remove the ban on this life-saving medication." Elizabeth Laguna, CA #670
"I have read the above information in regard to the recall on Warrick brand albuterol, I still say this is the best inhaler
ever made. This inhaler has saved my life on many ocassions as I have had asthma for over 30 years. All the replacements, preventives and home nebulizers do nothing but complicate my condition and usually land me a hospial visit." Denise Charlton, GA #677
"I have tried all three HFA inhalers. None provide adequate relief to my asthma. As a long-term asthma sufferer I have
finally achieved a level of medication maintenance and satisfactory respiratory management with the use of the generic CFC inhaler. Now I am taking a huge step backwards in my treatment and general health by being forced to use ineffective inhalers. This does not make me happy at all , and I'm worried about treatment of my future respiratory problems using these significantly less effective HFA inhalers. If I can't breathe the condition of the environment hardly matters. Bring back the Generic CFC Inhalers....NOW!" Martin J. Jacobs, IL #709
"the new non-cfc inhalers are worthless! It barely works (if at all). What a terrible thing to do to all the people with
asthma, emphazema, bronchitis or in my case COPD. I'll never be able to breath normally again! Ever. PLEASE REPEAL THE BAN ON CFC INHALERS! Plus, the cost has gone up three and a half times from that of my old CFC inhaler. But I would gladly continue to pay the higher price if it worked just like my old inhaler.." Robert C. Maule, IN #713
"Have been using the new inhalers the last three months and hate it. I use more and it does not feel like it is helping my
asthma." Kathleen Dormin, IL #716
"The new inhalers are inadequate in assisting with my asthma - Xopenex HFA included. I don't understand why anyone would change a life saving medication. PLEASE STOP THE BAN ON CFC INHALERS SO I AND MANY OTHERS CAN BREATH BETTER AGAIN!!! Carolyn Curse, IL #717
"I use 3 to 4 inhalers per month having copd plus MG . my ability to breathe is very limited and the new inhalers make it
impossible to receive a deep amount in my lungs so I am having a much harder time to breathe plus the cost is criminal as they now claim this is a new type!!! HELP" Patricia A. Baker, TX #732
"I have used an abuterol inhaler for over 20 years. When I first began to use the new HFA inhaler, I stayed optimistic- as I had no choice in the matter. But I quickly noticed that the effectivness of the newer inhaler is not anywhere near that of the CFC inhaler. I am somewhat glad to find out it may not be in my mind....as others are experiencing the same effects. Please, bring back the old inhalers...lives depend on them." Emily Wilkinson, KY #733
"I have copd and i am not getting any help from the hfa propelled inhaler, it does not help me at all, my health is failing
substantially. Help get the cfc albuterol inhauler back on market." Betty Gourley, IL #737
"The new inhaler has not worked for me at all!! I have been telling my Dr. and pharmacists since I started using them quite a while ago. I now have to carry my nebulizer everwhere I go because the inhaler will not rescue me. I have 5 children that need a mother and I am afraid they will not have one if the old inhaler is not avaliable for me."
Anonymous, IL #748
"I have asthma and also had half of my upper right lung removed two years ago. The new inhalers do not work for me at all. I now have to use my neubulizer more as the medicine from the new inhaler just sits in my mouth. They can no longer be called rescue inhalers or be depended on in case of an asthma attack. I really hope this petition does some good." Margaret Michalak, IL #752
"I have Asthma, and as a citizen of these United States, I have a right to be able to breathe, and a right to have medication that will help when needed. The current CFC Albuterol inhaler does just that. I shouldn't end up in an emergency room, or dead, because someone doesn't think I the right to use CFC's. It has taken years to get a combination of medications to keep my Asthma under control. Don't mess with it." Mary Graham, CA #763
"THE NEW HFA PROPELLED ALBUTEROLS DO NOT WORK 10% AS WELL AS THE CFC PROPELLED ALBUTEROLS. Give us back our ability to recover safely from an acute attack. Give us back CFC Propellants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Anthony R. Liotti, NJ #798
"I have Asthma, COPD, and severe allergies. I have been using CFC inhalers for many years without any problems. The new HFA inhalers are not helping me to breathe because they get clogged all of the time even though I rinse them, and the medicine does not get back far enough into my lungs. I am getting very scared. I hope and PRAY that the CFC inhalers are put back on the market." Sincerely, Dolores Fraioli FL #804
"With the rising health care costs these days and me not having health insurance whoever putting the ban on these inhalers has just signed a death warrant for a lot of people. Good job trying to control the population hope you feel good about it." Eric, WI #811
"Please, please do not take away what has worked for me for 23 years, I was dx w/asthma when I was 3. I have tried the HFA inhaler and actually had a very scary adverse reaction to the inhaler, besides that it didn't help mt breathing AT ALL! HFA inhalers do not serve the purpose in a rescue situation. I am scared that in December 2008 I will be hooked up to a nebulizer more than I am now. Please take this seriously everyone. I need the CFC inhaler, it works and always has." Kellie Putney, OK #818
"I agree with many others, as a long time asthma patient, these new HFA inhalers DO NOT WORK! I am tired of sucking back on these new inhalers only to get no results. I have used 1 of these new inhalers in less than a week becuase it does not work." Timothy Smith, IL #838
"Have been using the Pro Air inhaler in attempt to get used to the change. Spent Xmas morning in the ER for acute asthma attack. In 20 years of asthma have only been in ER 3 other times usually following a bout of bronchitis." Anonymous, VA #849
"Please don't remove CFC inhalers from the market. I have tried the new HFA inhaler and it simply doesn't work for me. I have used the same inhaler all my life with great results. The changes made for the enviroment have caused me more harm than good as I am currently having to miss work for a severe upper repiratory infection. This is the first real bout that I have had with my lungs in quite sometime. I feel there is a connection to the new HFA inhaler."
Charlotte Burton, TX #852
"I have tried using the Pro Air inhaler without CFC and have been in a serious downslide with my asthma; it does not work like the old Prevntil. Please exempt these inhalers from the ozone depletion campain; I need the CFC to breathe." Don Frank, FL #853
"I have used the "new" inhalers. THEY DON'T WORK! If you don't have asthma, you have no idea what it's like to not be able to breath. Well let me tell you. It's very scary. I need my inhaler to stay alive. They other inhalers need to be discontinued an replaced with albuterol." Monique Kelly, IL #854
"I've tried the newer inhaler and it does not work on me. In fact , i used it right in the pharmacy and when nothing happened I freaked at the prospect of NOT BEING ABLE TO BREATH!!! obviously the people who developed this stuff DON'T USE IT!!! because if they did NEED TO BREATHE!!! they would know that their product DOES NOT WORK!!! I am in COMPLETE HORROR over THE THOUGHT OF NOT BEING ABLE TO BREATHE. I will gladly DO ANYTHING TO HELP KEEP ME BREATHING. Please tell me what I can do to help with this matter. I am IN A PANIC ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO BREATH!!!" Manuel Pizarro, RI #885
"I hate these new inhalers, i have spent more time at the emergency room at the hospital in the last month, than I had in the last 10 years on my other inhalers, these things really SUCK...." Rick Parker, KY #887
"Please make the CFC inhalers available again. The HFA inhalers do not work for me. I now struggle to breathe, where before this ban my asthma was under control. Please." Kathi Foster, TX #903
"ProAir HFA is a useless inhaler. When I am struggling to CATCH MY OWN BREATH, I find myself stuck with a worthless
"solution" sold to me by a company that is SAVING THE ENVIRONMENT ONE DEAD ASTHMATIC AT A TIME!"
Travis Westbrook, TX #919
"My boyfriend has asthma and to tell you the truth point blank the new inhalers suck. they do not work for him, the old
albuterol ones did though. He uses his machine 2, 3 and 4 times a day now. if they do not change it back here soon he'll have to be sent back to national jewish and be on oxegen and breathing machines. until then i'm getting the meds that work for him from other countries" Anonymous, CO #923
"I have bronchial asthma and the only inhaler that has ever worked is the Albuterol inhaler 17g. The new EPA inhaler,
Proventil inhalers, Xeponex inhalers and the others don't work. I find myself having to take more and more nebulizer
treatments when I get switched from inhaler to inhaler. Please let those of us who really need this continue on what works. Why are you trying to fix something that isn't broken? Please stop messing with our health and leave Albuterol inhaler 17g on the market. It works - trust me - it really does." Stephanie Wright, MD #925
"They've switched my prescription to Proventil HFA- I have asthma induced by congestion which my CFC inhaler cleared up quickly. Now I find myself administering Proventil repeatedly with almost no result- I did not know why until I read this article-- I only knew it had something to do with eliminating the aerosol. I can go through one Proventil HFA in about a week, but I have to wait another three weeks for a refill." Help! Kate Beall, NY #938
"HFA inhalers do not work for me. When I wake up at night with asthma, I can't breath in very well and rely on the pressure of CFC inhalers to aid in pushing the medicine into my airway. I'm very worried about this decision. I'm also a 20 plus year user of cfc inhalers and they work very well." Bob Kolibas, OK #951
"Kaiser changed my proventil inhaler to HFA and didn't notify me of the change I have had nothing but trouble with the new HFA. It doen't work as well, I voice is raspy, I become very easily angered after taking the medication and become almost unable to control myself. I have chest pains and become shakey. Please bring back the cfc in the inhalers."
Linda Matteson, CA #964
"Please, I NEED my inhaler, and the new ones are not effective. My quality of life is decreasing because of the limits placed on my breating...HELP!" Janel Bauer, MN #967
"Not only does it not work right...I feel worse after I take it. I cant take a deep breathe...Ive been getting pains in my
chest. Ive never had pains before. It feels as though it's irritating my lungs even more. Ive had asthma all my life. I was
always so thankful the inhaler aloud me to live a somewhat normal life. I can't believe this is happening. I feel I wont be
able to live a normal life now. I can't workout anymore. I have to take my inhaler everytime before I workout. This one
doenst work. I had to stop my workout the last 3 times cause I couldnt breathe. I rushed home in a panic a breathing
treatment. At this point Ive decided to carry my breathing machine in my car. Thank goodness I still can rely on that. Who know's what would have happened. Whoever in congress agreed to pass this law has no idea how it feels to not be able to breathe and certainly doesnt have any compassion for us either. What about bigger problems. Hairspray (aerosol cans), Cigarette smoke, you name it, there's a million things out there that arent even necesary to live that are causing alot more damage. This is the brillant idea they came up with to help the enviorment. Are you kidding. I just hope all who suffer from asthma come together and do something about this. I will be doing whatever I can. My asthma isnt even half as bad as others I know and I'm suffering. I can't imagine with someone with worse problems is experiencing.
Gina Meekins, AZ #968
"4 People in my family have very bad asthma add to not beable to get warrick inhalers make it hard for us. The inhalers that we have been getting do not work. Please make the warrick inhalers again." Jo-Ann Sutherland, MA #970
"These new inhalers do not work half as well as the banned inhalers. It's a shame that my health is at risk over some silly law. With out the banned inhalers I feel on the edge of an asthma attack every day. This is no way to force me to live." George Mitchell, MD #974
"The HFA inhalers are totally ineffective, they do not propel the right amount of medication, they clog and have to be washed several times a week. This is an shameless abuse on asthma patients. We need the reliable CFC inhalers."
Carlos Rocha, VA #977
"I have had nothing but problems since they took the propellant out of albuterol. I have been going to the ER every two weeks for breathing treatments. The new med is completely ineffective!!" Jennifer Elsenbarth, KS #981
"I'm having adverse problems with the new inhaler. It is NOT as effective and Ive had 2 operations because of sinusites
related problems. This perscription Drys my eyes and sinuses out to the point that my sinuses bleed. MY eyes are puffy in mornings and extremely dry....Ive got to talk to my dr. about some other alternitive this is horrible."
Carole Hopkinson, OR #983
"I'm 63 and have emphysema. My doctor just put me on Atrovent HFA (I was on Combivent). The Atrovent makes me worse. I did some research and found out why. It contains alcohol. Alcohol has always bothered my breathing. Doesn't anyone there in Washington care about us?" NV Anonymous #1061
"I was born with asthma and I am an accomplished athlete (competitive mtn bike racer/distance cyclist and marathon
finisher for nearly 20 years.) I could not enjoy the sports I do, nor could I have accomplished the goals I have, without my CFC inhaler. The Primatene brand OTC inhaler is my "rescue" inhaler when I wake up at night with an attack... it's mild enough so that I can use it to quelch an attack and still go back to sleep. My prescription albuterhol inhaler is for during the day when I'm exercising and my heart rate is already high, in order to PREVENT an attack. Please let me add, that I am a card-carrying member of the Sierra Club and an avid tree-hugger; but like the slogan states "When you can't breathe, NOTHING ELSE matters." Thank you for your time, Jennifer Carrasco Simi Valley, CA #1076
“Looks like the big Drug Companies get their way again at the cost of consumers. We have more serious offenders who pollute and harm our environment than research shows the CFC Inhalers will. If you ever had to experience extreme difficulty in trying to breathe, you might understand why we need inhalers that work! Let's right this situation as soon as possible.” Maxine Beach, WI #1118
“I have a friend who can barely breathe with the new HFA inhaler! The CFC inhaler worked and let her breath. Do you really want tons of people suing because relatives and loved ones have literally suffocated to death because the CFC inhaler was banned?!” Sheri Syverson, AZ #1239
“I nearly had to go to the emergency room last night because my asthma did not respond to the new type of inhaler... this has not happened in years with the previous inhaler. This is terribly dangerous.” Maia Duerr, CA #1210
“I have noticed a drastic decrease in my lung capacity since my inhalers have been switched to the TEVA ProAir HFA. I also notice accelerated heart rate during exercise that is not normal for me. I am a healthy, active person, and I was much better off using even the generic over the counter Primatene Mist than this awful stuff. Bring back the CFC inhalers! We should have a choice about what we put in our lungs. Stop Trying To Poison Us!” Brooke Sauer, CA #631
“None of this surprises me! As usual, the voter wasn't given a choice in the matter. Legislation without representation! I
wish an asthma attack upon every official who voted in favor of this transition.” Linda Larsen, WA #672

“I hate the HFA inhalers. They are not effective for me. I consider the banning of this form of CFC absolutely ignorant. They tragedy of it all is that innocent people are suffering because some truly shortsighted politicians wanted to make a point. Please bring them back for me and my family's sake!” Michael Etheredge, MD #1110

My prescription albuterol inhaler is for during the day when I'm exercising and my heart rate is already high, in order to PREVENT an attack. Please let me add, that I am a card-carrying member of the Sierra Club and an avid tree-hugger; but like the slogan states "When you can't breathe, NOTHING ELSE matters." Thank you for your time.” Jennifer Carrasco, CA #1076
“I've been living uncomfortably for weeks now since the change. I can’t sleep because I can barely breathe thru the night. I have been using Warrick for years, now with the switch my life is a nightmare. I used to live a normal life. I could practice sports and exercise, now I fear all that has changed because I will never regain my breath fully. I’m irritable all the time because my lack of sleep and breathing discomfort. It has affected my work and now affecting my home life with my wife and 2 boys. If any lawmaker knew how this change has made the users suffer....this would never have passed. That little container alone can’t ruin the environment.” Michael Meier, WA #690
"Everyone who sees this please sign my husband needs this bad. These last two weeks would have been unbearable if he didn't have his inhaler. He has been an asthmatic all his life and this is the only thing that helps him. If he didn't have his inhaler he would have been in the ER. The other crap doesn't work and they know it, they just want us to keep going back tothe doctor to waste more money! I believe the worst feeling you can have is suffocation but he has to go through it almost everyday. And he would actually suffocate if it was not for his inhaler so please sign this and pray that god listens so my soulmate and everyone else out there suffering like him can breathe a little easier!"
Crystal Leslie, IN #2082
“Oh my god I am not crazy nor am I alone!! My pulmonary doctor refuses to see me anymore- because I use my ventolin inhaler too much!! I NEVER EVER had a problem with my little life saver Warrick regular albuterol inhaler!!” Dawn Alderman, AL #1092
“I have been wheezing ever since they discontinued. I've tried 5 different inhalers and none of them work. I skipped Ice
Hockey tonight because I wouldn't be able to breath! WTF this is some bullshit.” Wayne Schultz, NY #1196
"My doctor told me straight out that these new inhalers are not as good. The American Lung Assoc. sides with the
enviro-terrorists and offers no support except to tell me I am not using the product correctly. Tell me, how does an inhaler user for 20 years suddenly become dumb? Please do not insult my intelligence. My health is suffering. If one person dies from this crappy product, their blood is on your hands." Mitchell Ivey, TX #1406
"MY DAUGHTER IS 18 AND HAS ASTHMA. HER PUFFER WAS CHANGED TWO YEARS AGO TO PROVENTIL HFA AND NOW SHE IS WORSE. NOW SHE HAS TO TAKE ADVAIR 500, SINGULAR, PREVICID, AND NOW WE ARE ON A NEBULIZER. SHE IS IN COLLEGE AND IS CONSTANTLY HAVING ASTHMA ATTACKS. USING THE PROVENTIL SEVERAL TIMES PER DAY ALONG WITH THE NEBULIZER. I WANT TO HELP SAVE HER LUNGS." Teresa Kaylor, TN #122
"I used the Serevent inhaler along with my Proventil inhaler for two years. I felt great for the first time in years I could
breath. I can no longer get Serevent (only in powder which is useless same as Advair) and now my Proventil is no longer
available. Between the powder Serevent and Proventil HFA I have zero energy, I can't catch my breath. What is the plan? We need these inhalers to LIVE. Or maybe that is the plan." Faith Wiest, MN #154
"PLEASE BRING BACK THE ATROVENT CFC ,,,I AM UNABLE TO TAKE THE HFA ,,ATROVENT CFC WAS THE ONLY MEDICINE I COULD USE,,,,PLEASE FOR MY LIFE BRING IT BACK AND BAN THE HFA ,,THIS ISNT RIGHT TO ALLOW US TO SUFFER WHEN THERE IS MEDICINE THAT COULD BE AVAILABLE......THINK OF CHILDREN AND ALL PEOPLE WHO NEED THESE LIFE SAVING MEDICATIONS,,ITS NOT JUST THE ALBUTEROL ,,ITS ATROVENT AND ALL OTHERS THAT CONTAINED THE CFC..THE HFA'S ARE NOT GOOD" Pamela Burnley, FL #147
"Please stop the madness and stop attacking those of us with asthma! Who cares if we shoot CFC's into our lungs so we can stay alive? This environmentalism has run amok and is hurting WORKING PEOPLE & PEOPLE WITH A SERIOUS CHRONIC ILLNESS. Where is the Democratic Party that used to stand up for the working class in OUR COUNTRY?"
Nevenka Crnojevich, WI #272
"I have Asthma and the new change in Inhalers does not work for me.I have been to the Emergency Room because I cannot get my breath.I did not have this problem before. Please bring our old Inhalers back. Its a matter of Life and Death!" Betty Kosegi, OH #292
"The HFA Albuterol inhaler is not working for me like the CFC Albuterol inhaler did. I can no longer run, and I have trouble
sleeping because I can't breathe despite using the HFA multiple times!!" Laura A. Weiland, PA #371
"I fully support CFC inhalers remaining on the market. I tried these HFA inhalers in the late 90's when they first came out and they tasted terrible, gave me mouth and throat sores and did not work nearly as well. I quickly switched back to my trusty CFC inhaler." Carly Kidd, MN #374
"I have had asthma for 24 yrs. I have been through slobid and the use of Albuterol since it was introduced. I have been able to play sports with no incidents and live a normal life. Now I am dependent on my inhalers, 3-4 times a day, I am unable to do the activities I once did and enjoyed. Please reinstate the CFC Inhalers." Jason, TX #367
"Please reinstate the use of CFC's in medical inhalers! The new HFA does not work as well as the previous inhalers and I use my inhaler twice as much...IT HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE! They are not as effective and I have had asthma for 20 years...PLEASE hear our request to return to CFC inhalers!" Kim Litvinow, NJ #523
"I want to take up the cause to ban ProAir immediately and that the FDA reinstate the generic Albuterol that has helped me and millions of people suffering from asthma." Craig Kessel, WA #1405
“This is outrageous. First of all, I was never prescribed Pro-Air by my doctor like the FDA site claims one must be before
they can GET the new inhalers - I was forced by Walgreens to buy this crap and literally told that I "have no choice" and
that "it's the same exact medication." If it's the same, how come I was using it every three hours (as opposed to once every other day with the CFC inhalers) because my lungs constantly felt on the verge of collapsing??? How will the US government make money once millions of its own citizens have been MURDERED as a result of this thoughtless decision? Until it is FEDERALLAW that all Americans recycle their waste, drive cars that run on vegetable oil, plant five trees per person, and are banned from SMOKING INDOORS, the government has NO RIGHT to force us to inhale this POISON for the sake of the environment!!!! BIG MISTAKE - THE CORRUPT CLOWNS IN BIG PHARMA AND THE GREEDY POLITICIANS WHO ENABLE THEM CAN ONLY SUCCEED SO LONG BEFORE THEY GET THEIR KARMA.” Krystina Kraus, OK, #644
“My druggist no longer carries the CFC inhaler and I have switched to Proventil HFA -- it just does not work, is not
effective, no matter how many puffs I take. I've tried other combination inhalers and they do not work either. I'm over age 50 and I've dealt with asthma all my life. I am suffering constantly with the new medication and have missed a great deal of work because of asthma, far more than ever before. How can they do this to people who are already struggling to catch their breath?” Kathe Archambault, CA #266
“My mother and I, as well as my children, have asthma and rely on rescue inhalers. The CFC inhalers that we relied on were reliable and worked. We were able to lead normal lives. Since the "brilliant" invention of the "new" inhalers with no CFC, life has drastically changed. We now have been forced to alter our activities because of not having an effective rescue inhaler. How pathetic this is. When will this change??? Something has to be done for our life's sake!!!!!!”
Carol Gatrell, OH #105
“I just visited my mother yesterday for the first time in a while and she is working hard to help save her inhaler. I'd never seen her use a nebulizer before and it's a scary thing to see my mom go to just needing a little inhaler in her pocket, going out, shopping and stuff life that, to constantly staying at home because she needs that nebulizer now. She explained it to me, and kids especially are getting their lives screwed up. I want my mother back the way she was before she was afraid to go out of her house. Dear FDA please give my mother back the life she had!”
Dennis Godowsky, Jr. NC, #125
“Simply put these new inhalers do not work as well as the CFC versions. I have tried the Proventil HFA and the new propellant is not powerful enough for the medicine to reach the lungs where it belongs. We are told to inhale deeper, but how can we inhale deeper while having an asthma attack? Isn't the point of the propellant to force the medicine into our lungs when we CAN'T "breathe deeply"? I am for saving the environment too, but not at the cost of human lives. Bottom line, even with the "negligible" amount of CFC that these inhalers release, they keep us asthma sufferers ALIVE! Why in the world would you ban them and then turn around and allow them be replaced them with alternatives that do not work? The CFC inhalers need to stay until a SUITABLE and EQUALLY effective alternative can be found that won’t make asthma sufferers' lives harder than it already is. People are going to die because of this and the blood will be on your hands for allowing this happen; I foresee many lawsuits. I will no longer put my life in jeopardy using these new HFA inhalers, and I will continue to stock up on the CFC inhalers so I can have ones that actually do their job of allowing me to BREATHE!” Christopher Johnson, GA #30
"Please don't take this much needed item of the market. Not using the old inhaler alomost killed my friend and now she has permanent damage to her heart, becasue of a resulting heart attack. Her health has been in continual decline since she changed inhalers." D Ette, NM #1420
"I tried proAir HFA ,the new asthma inhaler, it made my asthma worse, deeper congestion, more shallow breathing. What do I do now? I have had manageable asthma with albuterol inhaler and now I don't." Carla Travis, GA #1423
"Are they really serious? that this inhaler works as well as the cfc one? Do any of these urls posted on here give us an
opportunity to reply to their smug attitudes? NO... This is a disgrace.. and no one will listen to us until deaths
occur..Thanks Bill Clinton.. one more or your mistakes we are paying for." Carla Travis, IA #1426
"DOCTORS SAY THAT HFA INHALERS ARE AS EFFECTIVE BUT YOU NEED TO BREATHE IN A LITTLE HARDER, IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO DO THAT WHEN YOU ARE HAVING AN ASTHMA ATTACK AND CAN HARDLY BREATH AT ALL. BRING BACK THE CFC INHALERS AND SAVE LITERALLY MILLIONS FROM SUFFERING." CARLOS BIELMA, CA #1433
"I have used Proventil CFC inhalers successfully for many years. When I ordered a refill, I could only get Proventil HFA.
When I used it, I experienced bronchial spasms, chest pain, high heart rate, and extreme nausea. I cannot afford to vomit as I have a tracheotomy (on a ventilator) and I could aspirate. I cannot tolerate alcohol... in the HFA inhaler. Not only are people suffering from asthma put in great danger by this change to HFA inhalers; there are many people like myself who have been able to enjoy a quality of life using CFC inhalers. Now I have become a hostage in my home with NO alternative but to stay by the nebulizer. I was shocked to read that the Clinton Presidency pressured and succeeded to include the banning of CFC inhalers in the Montreal Protocol in 1997, when they had been excluded. HFA inhalers are a serious health threat to me and to many others. I hope that the time has come for our government to realize just how really horrifying and unbelievable it is find out, in our Country, this health risk is not important. I find it hard to believe that CFC inhalers cause such drastic harm to our environment. We should at least have the alternative to get CFC inhalers if the HFA inhaler presents serious medical problems." J. Nelson MN #1436
"As a Cystic Fibrosis patient, I feel that the inhalers lacking CFC's (Pro-air, Proventil) are more than 75% less effective.
I am coughing more, wheezing, and out of breath constantly. I believe when it comes down to human health issues, it's a miniscule price to pay." Kim Kreidler, FL #1437
"Signed ~ If we can't breath, and the new inhalers don't work.. what are we to do? Nebulizers make you a bit dizzy after each use.. and some people need to use their normal inhaler at least once every 4 hours.. some people more. You can't use a nebulizer that much. And the effects of a nebulizer won't last as long as we would like. Wanna help the environment? Make more electric cars damn it." Matt Modrow, WI #1444
"My daughter and husband are asthmatics and needs these inhalers....the new replacements are not effective. Please consider the facts and allow these inhalers back on the market" Beatrice Johnson, TX #1454
"am a life long chronic asthma sufferer and am very concerned about the changeover from CFC to HFA inhalers. I received a HFA inhaler from my local pharmacy about six months ago and noticed straight away that inhalations of this medicine did not relieve my breathing. I subsequently requested that I only bought CFC inhalers as long as they lasted. Now it seems the only CFC inhalers available are manufactured by Armstrong - and THESE INHALERS DO NOT WORK!!!! IN FACT THEY SEEM TO HAVE MADE MY ASTHMA SYMPTOMS WORSE!!! I have been to the emergency room five times since November 2007, it is now February 2008, am on my fifth dose of prednisone - the only way I seem to be able to relieve my breathing is to use my nebulizer. I am signing this petition because I believe that many people are going to die, including myself, because of this change in medicine" karen roberts, CT #1483
"It seems ludicrous to put ethanol, a bronchial restricting toxin, in an inhaler for people who are having trouble breathing. Imagine opening your mouth and not being able to get any air. It is like drowning. I have had asthma all my life and all I can say is if this thing goes through, I hope the class action lawsuit(s) make the decision makers feel as if they cannot get any air!" Robin Cook, CT #1493
"My husband is the one that has to use the inhaler... Often enough to keep one handy. I cannot imagine why something like this could harm the environment when there are more pressing things that need to be regulated. Why someones' health needs to be hurt. We are in our 80's and live on a small pension and ss...have you tried that lately?"
Lucile Gates, TX #1494
"I have almost no- relief from my asthma attacks with these new inhalers, these were supposed to be emergency inhalers but now when i feel an attack coming and I use these new ones that don't work I begin to panic and that makes the attacks even worse. I belief I my die because of this and something needs to be done" Samuel M. Johnson, IL #1500
"What do we have to do? File a class action lawsuit-- leave the country? I'm allergic to these new HFA inhalers (probably the ethanol corn based crap in them-- they actually induce an asthma attack. What a greedy country we live in. I will be fighting for my life."Marla Del Collins, NY #2099
"THE HFA INHALERS DON'T WORK FOR ME! IT SEEMS LIKE THE HFA MANUFACTURER IS TRYING TO CUT A FAT HOG. PLEASE HELP THE ASTHMA SUFFERERS, OR OUR EMERGENCY ROOMS WILL BE OVERRUN WHEN THE BAN BEGINS"
GARY LEIFESTE, WA #1400
"This ProAir HFA does NOT work well for me. Instead of using the CFC Inhaler.. 2 puffs .. 4 times daily, I use the HFA inhaler 3 puffs (at least) 6 times a day. Therefore I am running out after 2 1/2 weeks and have to wait another 1 1/2 weeks before my insurance will pay for another. I end up having to use an over the counter inhaler, which works about the same as the HFA. Who does my husband sue if I have an Asthma Attack and die because this 'crap' they are giving us does NOT work ???? " Gloria Frasier, MI #1399
"Since using the new medicines I'm having attacks all the time. Before, I would have attacks for 1 week in April and 1 week in September like clockwork for the for the past 9 years. I've had multiple attacks EVERYDAY for the months of Aug, Sept and October. It's January and since mid December I'm having between 4 and 10 attacks weekly. I cannot imagine this sudden onslaught of attacks is a coincidence that suddenly my asthma has just gotten worse. I actually called the pharmacy to tell them that I must have gotten a faulty inhaler when he explained I was one of hundreds he had talked to. This is outrageous." K Kirkilas, IL #1396
It is amazing that congress made such an irresponsible decision to ban CFC inhalers. It is a shame each member who voted for this drastic measure could not experience the difficulties in breathing from having a respatory illness and the significant relief the CFC inhalers give over the HFA variety (no comparison). I will support this effort to get this bill passed to reenact the CFC inhalers. Joseph Pfeiffer, FL #4535
HFA inhalers are garbage--they cause my asthma to be WORSE instead of better, and I have been
constantly coughing ever since the change from CFC propellant to HFA--I have to clean the inhaler more often and use a spacer (I had to pay for one) to lessen the effects of the new propellant! Kathleen Y. Green, CA #4538
I have had asthma for about 9 years now and always used Proventil with CFA and it helped to relieve
the tight feeling in my chest and make it easier to breathe. Now I have been given ProAir HFA with Ethanol and It does
nothing for me, I continue to gasp for air after taking this inhaler. This is a miserable feeling and we should have the
right to have a medication that will help us. Asthma inhalers are the least of the Ozone worries there are MUCH bigger
problems than an inhaler and they have nothing to do with helping people breathe. Anonymous, OK #4541
My asthma was prevoiusly well managed using a rescue inhaler with CFCs. The new albuterol inhaler HFA
is not effective. I have been using outdated inhalers with CFC but even outdated inhalers are no longre available. Please
issue a medical exemption to allow inhalers with CFCs for asthma patients. They are both safer and more effective and could not possibly be a significant contributer to at atmospheric CFCs. Elaine Valovic, MA #4547
I beg you to reverse this decision before I suffer more. This cannot be justice! Paul Eubanks, NC #4548
These new Inhalers do not work as effectively. I can no longer jog without having to give myself what seems like a dangerous level of puffs to stabalize my breathing. THe old inhalers worked just fine. Brian Wiley,CA #4554
This new inhaler was making me very sick. It actually irritated my lungs to a point where I was worried about having to start taking oral prednisone. I finally put two and two together and stopped and dug out one of the old inhalers I had not opened. Relief was almost immediate! There is no doubt in my mind these inhalers are flawd and there is no justification to have taken the others away from us. We all have a right to our medicine and to breath. Colleen Sedlacek, WI #4556
I have had asthma for 40 years. The CFC inhalers are much better for my asthma. The HFC are not nearly as effective in getting the medication deep into my lungs. I feel more nervous with the HFC.Give me my old inhaler back.
Mark Erickson,OH #4557
"Please help us breath a little longer by letting us have our old cfc inhalers back. This new inhaler does not give relief or last as long as the old ones. I have tried to adjust to them, however I am unable to get the relief I need to function." Barbara May, MI August 7, 2009
"It's a shame we can't give each member of congress who signed off on this bill a case of severe asthma for a day to experience the fear and discomfort of not having an effective inhaler to regain their breath. What is so frustrating is that we had one (CFC inhalers). Certainly there can be no justifiable comparison between the minor affect these inhalers had on the environment compared to the significant discomfort taking them away has created. Congress should act on this quickly, not to mention the huge difference in price and the expense to consumers and health care."
Joseph Pfeiffer, FL August 6, 2009
"I hate the new HFC Albuterol inhalers. I miss the old style CFC Albulterol inhalers. Give me a break, I want to breathe better... bring back the CFC inhalers!" Anthony LoBue, NY August 6, 2009
"It is amazing that congress made such an irresponsible decision to ban CFC inhalers. It is a shame each member who voted for this drastic measure could not experience the difficulties in breathing from having a respiratory illness and the significant relief the CFC inhalers give over the HFA variety (no comparison). I will support this effort to get this bill passed to reenact the CFC inhalers." Joseph Pfeiffer, FL #4535
"For the increased cost of the new inhalers you would think they would work better. They do not work well for me at all. I really miss my old inhaler." Chris Kirk, KS #4536
"I have COPD and can attest to the inefficiency of ProAir HFA inhaler. Since having to have to switch I noticed right away the difference in my breathing. I have to use twice as much to even feel like I am getting any relief. Since my insurer only allows one per month then I am constantly running out and not able to obtain a replacement. When I was able to use a CFC inhaler I did not have to use it as often. I am very dismayed by the continuing invasion of junk science into my daily life. This is an outrage to my ability to choose an important aspect of my healthcare."
Cynthis Bloemer, KS August 2, 2009
"This never should have happened. I am signing this because since I have switched over to HFA inhalors I can not breath. I am afraid for my children, who also have asthma. The ban on CFC inhalors has directly affected my health and quality of life. It is terrible to have an inability to breath, and terrifying knowing that what is on the market can't help, when there is something that can and we are denied access to it." Heather Robinson, MN July 30, 2009
"Now I have the answer to why I have gotten so much worse. I have to stay near home because of nebulizer is at home. Can not do anything anymore unless I run out of breath. New inhaler is not working and iam alot worse than before when I used Albeutrol inhaler .Please help us we have people dying." Shawneka Walters, IN July 29, 2009
"I am 61 and have been asthmatic since childhood. I have never been hospitalized for my asthma. Between my steroid inhaler and my CFC albuterol inhaler I have been in complete control of my asthma. I received my first HFA albuterol inhaler early this year. I have already had 2 bouts of pneumonia, in Februrary and again in June. I have always been athletic, but find myself avoiding exertion because I have realized that my HFA albuterol inhaler does not help me like my CFC inhaler did. This is changing my life considerably. "Last night I awoke in the middle of the night ,again, because I was having trouble breathing. I used my HFA inhaler, ProAir. When that did not work, I remembered that I had an old CFC inhaler that I keep in a travel bag. I got up and used that and within 2-3 minutes my breathing was again normal and I could go back to sleep. That inhaler expired a year ago and still worked better than my new HFA inhaler. I am constantly short of breath now and it terrifies me to think of what my future holds."Judith Stone, CA #2580
"Why are you killing people under the guise of "global warming?"" David Craig, Esq., MD July 28, 2009
(Ed. They are killing people under the guise of 'ozone layer depletion' (as opposed to 'global warming') with the ban of CFC inhalers.)
"This legislation will be remembered as barbaric as witch trials seem today. Shame on those who voted for this. Reverse this ban before countless people have to die. No one who opposes the reversal of this law will ever get our votes again and we will tell everyone we know, forget about our votes. We won’t vote for the politicians who took away our chance to breathe." Marion Wildermann, PA #4524
"When I run out of my CFC inhalers I stocked I die unless I find another source. They MUST legalize CFC inhalers. I'll die. And they won't care they just care about the little smile on their face because they think they are saving the damn world. MURDERERS and TORTURERS! HFA inhalers DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. They WILL KILL ME or cause me to stay inside on a machine like an invalid if I live through the attacks I KNOW will come." Mark Potts, TN 7/27/09
"I have had to use supplemental steroid inhalers to control my asthma and other medications when my (CFC) inhaler used to control my asthma just fine. I have had to have more frequent TAC (triamcinolone) injections and use my (HFA) inhaler more often than I ever have before." Frank Fisherman, FL 7/19/09
"A lifelong asthma sufferer, my mother has essentially been kept alive by her CFC inhaler. Now she has run out, and she cannot tolerate the new HFA inhalers. By all means, ban whatever propellants may be used by, say, the cosmetics industry. But when lives are at stake--in this case the lives of perhaps hundreds of thousands of respiratory patients across the country--an exception is necessary on medical grounds." Christopher Andersen, CT #4511
"They are not nearly as effective as the old ones. I end up getting more breathing treatments and oxygen from my doctor than I every had to before." Sharon Previte, RI 7/16/09
"HFA inhalers don't work as well. There needs to be Phase IV collected." (Ed. Phase IV clinical trials are 'real-world', postmarketing drug studies, larger and more thorough than Phase III pre-approval clinical trials. Amazingly, U.S. Phase IV studies of HFA inhalers were never done, due to opposition by the drug companies (IPAC, the International Pharmaceutical Aerosol Consortium), the EPA, and the U.S. Stakeholders' Group on MDI Transition.)
Prasanth Reddy, KS 7/15/09
"I am in total agreement, the new HFC does not work....period. I have used albuterol cfc for over 20 years, no problems with it. This is a very dangereous game that is being played with peoples lives. Remember the old saying "if it isn't broke, don't fix it". Well folks there was/is nothing wrong with the cfc ihnalers so why all the fuss about cfc free inhalers......gotta be political, certainly is not based on medical fact. Thanks to whoever started this petition, maybe we can save and even bring back the cfc inhaler before someone dies because they did not have the proper meds."
Norma Wray, TX 7/15/09
"I absolutely DO NOT like the HFA inhaler! I have had asthma all my life and as soon as I tried the HFA inhaler I knew that it did not work at all. I told my Mother. My Mom said that my brother (who has also had asthma his whole life) said that it does not work either. I have even tried ordering my CFC inhaler from Canada, but they don't have it either! If the government is SO worried about the ozone, why don't they force everyone to drive electric cars, not force everyone who has asthma to stop breathing? I canNOT believe this! They have gone too far! Thank you for making this website."
Tabitha Bareno, OR 7/11/09
"Purpose for presciption: asthma/COPD. Albuterol CFC vs Proair HFA.. The "new and improved", environmentally friendly product is neither medically as effective, or cost-efficient. It requires triple the intake, to reduce the restriction, comes in a smaller canister, at triple the cost! Whomever was overseeing this project, has never used this product to restore breathing over suffocation (as frightening as it fatal). If they had, they would never have approved this product as comparable! "Personal side effects (possibly from incresased dosage) have been increased migraines, ear aches and increased BP. The medical ineffectiveness leaves me feeling exhausted and reduces my overall productivity. I think this experiment should be scrapped, the old medication returned, and go back to the drawing boards. If not, there will be an unacceptable level of issue related deaths." Donna Buelt, MN 7/10/2009
"I am back on steroids because of inhalers that don't work. Please change the legislation. I'm a single mom of a young son and I really don't want to die from an asthma attack." Meghan Hospes MS, 7/8/2009
"The ban is dangerous and scientifically unsupportable; simply a ruse to increase drug company profits at the expense of people with a chronic illness." James E. Baker, WA 7/7/2009
"CFCs in Inhalers hurting the ozone layer is absurd, and even if its true using ineffective non-cfc inhalers is life threatening." Phillip Lubeck, IA 6/26/2009
"This new inhaler just doesn't control my asthma like the old did, it gives me chest pain, mouth sores, and no relief. I want my old inhaler back." Julia Harbeck, IA 7/5/2009
"I just caught the web site on the CFC inhalers. I thought I was alone in this battle. I think this was the most irresponsible thing the government has ever done with regards to something so serious as asthma. I am panic stricken all the time because none of the HFA's work and my lung clinic doesn't seem to care. Any more news on this. I am so scared! can you email me back." Darlene Lemire, MN 7/3/2009
""The new inhalers are woefully inadequate and I miss the CFC inhalers that I used without incident for most of my life." Rachal Valtakis, CA 6/17/2009
"I absolutely hate the new inhalers and feel they are totally innefective. How many innocent people are going to have to die before these abhorations are removed from pharmacy counters?" Elizabeth Gonzalez, IN 6/17/2009
"It's absurd that something that is considered a rescue medication doesn't work, and that no one has considered the potential health disasters related to this change." Carol Rugg, IL 6/10/2009
"New HFA inhalers don't work! What about our health? I have asthma and COPD." Christopher Winstone, CA 6/8/2009
"The Green Police should not have the right to dictate MY health care! They should experience an asthma attack!" Stephen Carpenter, MI 6/6/2009
"These HFA inhalers simply do not work. Ive tried two different brands and became severly ill after dosage.. Its unfair us asthmatic patients must suffer just because this country is ran by pharmacutical companies.. its not right.."
Shelly Williams, FL 6/6/2009
"How dare you risk our lives for the EPA and take away medicine that works. Why don't you put yourself in our place for once. I am fed up with government thinking they know how to treat my illness when they don't know me. This is not socialism!" Tina Dufresne, NC 6/2/2009
"This new ProAirHFA sucks. It is a waste of my money, but the Gods that are, think otherwise. My albuterol CFC lasted over 1 month, sometimes 2 months, because it actually helped me. This new CRAP is exactly that, CRAP."
Sheryll Kisling, IL 5/31/2009
"To make people with asthma suffer on the alter of political correctness is unconscionable. They wouldn't be doing this if it were dogs or cats suffering. Bring back the old and effective albuterol inhalers." Char Carpenter, MI 5/31/2009
"My asthma has gone from "mild" to "moderate" since being forced to use the hfa inhalers. They are useless. I am hoarding all my old cfc's and using them until they are dry! How can our government justify "going green" at the expsnse of asthmatics healthy? There are other ways to help the planet!!!" Tiffany Bemis, NY 5/29/2009
"My asthma was just fine with the old inhalers. With this new ProAir, I am unable to breathe normally. It's as if I'm not even using an inhaler. It's junk." Krista Darnell, TX 5/28/2009
"The New HFC Inhalers are nearly useless to me! They are are much less effective and Cause me to have a bad headache EVERY TIME I use them!! I have been forced to use them for nearly a year now so I have had ample time to "learn"! Because of the Headaches they cause I just cant use them! PLEASE HELP!!" Rod Turner, IL 5/24/2009
"I have managed my asthma well for years and in the last month I have felt like some one is sitting on my chest, along with being pregnant. This new method of asthma medication is ridiculous and ineffective. I want my old inhaler back." Isabel Guerrero, CA 5/19/2009
"I am now forever home bound - this inhaler does not work at all - if it wasn;t for the plug in one at home i will be dead. i miss being able to not fear for my life when i leave the house." Toni Mckenna, VA 5/16/2009
"The new inhalers are a joke and my grandmother is on her last inhaler. After this she is probably going to die without her CFC inhaler/The enviroment is important but those that we love we cannot bear to see gone! Have a heart!!" Rebecca Sanchez, NY 5/16/2009
"I was forced to switch to the ProAir inhalers. They don't work. They cost 3 times as much as the old Albuterol inhalers and they last me 2 weeks as opposed to the old style albuterol inhalers which last me about 2 months. I am politically active and served in the Utah House of Representatives for a 1 year period. If there is anything that I can do to add credibility to this important issue, please contact me." Brian Monsen, UT 5/8/2009
"The HFA inhalers do not work if anything they cause more problems with asthma related problems than the previous inhaler that used to be prescribed in the United States." Michele Page, CA 5/8/2009
"These HFA's are ridiculous! For the first time in my asthmatic life (25 years) I woke in the middle of the night with a severe attack and after 12 puffs of this ridiculous shit I was able to take a breath. I swear that my asthma has gotten so much worse since I have been using this new inhaler. I was usually using my CFC inhaler about 4-6 times a week-now I am using it 4-6 times a day! Thanks FDA, for selling us down the river yet again! And the ALA-you should be most ashamed of yourself being the FDA lap dog, and how is it possible that the leaders and spokespeople of ALA have no clue about asthma? Shameful." Timothy Gallagher, MN 5/6/2009
"I am no longer able to exercise as my emergency inhaler does not work properly. How do you take a deep breath to inhale the medicine if you cant breath? Why would you replace a product proven to work with a product that is so harmful to patients?" Cynthia Morton, IN 5/2/2009
"I had to "stock up" on the CFC Albuterol Inhalers before Dec. 2008 as I am allergic to the ALL of the newer HFA inhalers. They do not work, I used 3 to 4 times as often as I do the CFC. They did not control my COPD at all, caused me great nausea, horrible itchy and blotchy hives. It was just terrible. After just a few months on these things, including Xopenex, Proventil, and ProAir all gave me problems. I had to INSIST that my Dr. write me up for the original CFC Albuterol Inhalers, which by the way only cost me $18 and change. These so-called "newer and safer" HFA's are in the price range of $45-$90 each, depending on where you go. "It's outrageous and causing much harm to numerous individuals like myself. My daughter was put on Proventil HFA for allergy induced asthma a few months ago and now is having the issues of the hives, rashes, and all her Dr. has done is prescribe her Benadryl to counteract the ALLERGIC RASH which is from the hfa inhalers. It's sad that the government has felt the need to once again butt in where they don't belong."They're not the ones who are suffocating, it is those of us with lung issues that are suffering! The should have asked US if we wanted the switch or not, not environmentalists. Sorry, but my health and my life, and the health and lives of many others, should NEVER be compromised because they "think" it may be harming the ozone layer. They have to actually prove this as far as I'm concerned. I've also read that these new HFA's contribute to their so-called "Global Warming" campaigns. So what's next, get rid of HFA's too and just let us all suffocate to death. Once my supply runs out of Albuterol CFC, I'm screwed. It's a disgrace and America should be ashamed to put ANY environmental issue ABOVE ANY PERSON'S HEALTH or LIFE. I've already told my family, and when I get down to my last CFC inhaler, I will be reminding them that if anything happens to me due to my not being able to have access to the mediations that work and have many many years of a proven track history, that they are to sue the government for wrongful death. There is nothing worse than the feeling of not being able to breathe." Cheryl Page, CA 4/29/2009
"After 3 weeks of using the new inhaler I was in serious trouble - luckily had a nebulizer to use when I realized it wasn't just the allergy season that was the problem.I hve used the albuterol inhalers since 1984, and before that the isuprel inhaler since 1958. This is almost criminal to put something on the market that jeopardizes our lives like this . You can't tell me they didn't know it going into manufacture. count me in on whatever we can possibly do to bring back the old version." Lynda Mills, LA 4/27/2009
"I have recently been switched to ProAir HFA. Since I have been switched, I have suffered 2 severe asthma attacks along with extreme sore throat and the third time the sore throat occured it was accompanied with ear pain. I reserached the inhaler online since that was the only link I had to these reccuring sore throats that came on so strong and discovered that the HFA is known to cause these problems in patients. I have my asthma under control. At least, I did until I started using this ProAir HFA. Now I have to resort to my old CFC Albuterol inhaler to get any relief and that was the only thing that got my sore throat to stop aching. Took the CFC on a Saturday after 2 bouts with the HFA and sore throat by Sunday the next day, my sore throat was gone and my coughing managed. I believe we should have a choice. Most astmatics have allergies. Did no one take into consideration that these people with allergies might have issues with the ethanol in the HFA? Taking away options is risking lifes! Mine! Being able to breath is something a lot of people take for granted. If the bureaucrats that implemented this change were asthmatics and suffered the ill effects like I have, I believe there'd be a greater push to bring back choices like the more effective CFC inhaler."
Lori Schukraft, NY 4/27/2009
"I have documented data on how the elimination of CFCs in my wife's inhaler has negatively impacted her health. This can be a life or death matter. The law must be changed to allow CFCs in the inhalers."
Donald James Chase, CA 4/19/2009
"These Inhalers make my symtoms worse and have nearly sent me to the ER 3x since i got it 2 weeks ago."
Devin Delozier, TX 3/27/2009
"I have been in distress since the inhalers were changed, no matter what they say the new stuff doesnt work and my quaility of life is going downhill very fast . Please do what you can to get back the medicine i so desperately need."
Mrs. Lin Roy, OK 3/15/2009
""Something has to be done, these new inhalers DONT WORK, but yet are more expensive. this is a medical matter, not a political matter. Does anyoe even care anymore? do our politicians still work for us? or for the lobbiest who pay them off? As an American i am ashamed the way ou government treats its people..I never thought I would say that."
Ann Wilson, AL 3/2/2009
"Stop killing us with political correctness. These HFA/MDI's are worthless. I have been forced to return to using a nebulizer to maintain the same status I had for YEARS with CFC's alone! This is using politics instead of tested science, and those involved should be arrested and tried as criminals." Jessica Brei, IL 2/22/2009
"I am under a doctor's care for asthma, but so far he was not found an alternative to my Primatene Mist an CFC inhaler." Bela Feketekuty, MD 2/22/2009
"Please help bring back CFC asthma inhallers, the HFA ones do not work and are causing great hardship. We have no recourse but to ask for an exception so that people with respiratory problems can get relief and breathe. Thank you for your consideration and help." Kim Weber, PA 2/22/2009
"HFA Don't work with most people, and they Certainly don't work with me." Aaron Stevens, UT 2/22/2009
"Bring back the CFC inhalers to save lives. HFA inhalers are not effective and there is a remarkable difference between the two. HFA inhalers fail to deliver a powerful dose of medication to the lungs. As the first line of defense in an asthma attack, it is inexcusable to ban a good product and replace it with something so substandard."
Kathleen DeLong, PA 2/22/2009
"Thank you! I thought that my asthma was getting worse, now I know that my inhaler isn't working. I got a new one in 1/09 and now I know why it isn't bringing me relief!" Dawn Spencer, MI 2/21/2009
"NEED CFC INHALER-BAN SOMETHING ELSE THAT HAS MORE IMPACT AND DOESN'T KILL PATIENTS."
Cindi Tindall, CA 2/19/2009
"My fiance has just had to switch to the new HFA inhalers and they are terrible. For three days she was pretty much having one constant asthma attack. Please allow her to attain medicine that is effective!" Nathan Hill, NY 2/19/2009
"I tried these inhalers & in two months, they have made my astham far, far worse & made me sicker & weaker."
Donna McLaren, MD 2/18/2009
"I am a human being, worthy of the right to breathe as everyone else does, unimpeded. the cfc inhalers work for me, I feel no one has the right to decide what the quality of my life should be. i haven't been to the ER in over 15 years with the help of my inhaler, now that that's gone where do i stand? will the people responsible for these changes pay my hospital bills? what about my funeral?" Carmen Ortega, NY 2/14/2009
"I have COPD, and the HFC inhaler does not work, I am not getting any meds out of it, I want my other inhaler back...I do not believe that it was harming the Ozone." Rose Mary Morris, VA #4466
"Proair and HFA inhalers do not work nearly as well as the CFC inhalers they do nothing for severe asthmatics like myself." Erica, MD #4469
"I agree I can not breath since they were switched to HFA." Rodney Yaklin, MI #4465
"I hate the new inhalers. I am pregnant and they are not working. I am scared to death for me and my baby. I am using an expired inhaler just to breathe. This is ridiculous to get rid of the ones that let me live a good life."
Tahney Johnston, CA #4459
"The new HFA inhalers do not work. I have had my asthma under control for 30 years using 1 inhalor every year and now I have gone through 2 of the ProAir HFA inhalors in 2 months." Patti March, NM #4447
"I have used CFC inhalers for years and they work. My doctor gave me ProAir and it simply does not work. When I confronted him with the problem he continues to tell me that I am not using it properly. I have had asthma since I was a child, I know how to use an inhaler. Quit blaming the patient, please listen to us." A.B. Mason, OH #4438
"I need my warrick inhaler - the Proventil does not let me breathe after using it. I have tried several and none provide relief - they cost more and last less becasue you have to use it so much more just to get results - please - I cant breathe!" Holly Spisak, FL #4429
"The HFA product does not work. This means that millions of asthma sufferers were left with no real substitute for the CFC inhaler, thereby endangering their lives." Ron Gielgun, NJ #4422
"My wife has had asthma since childhood. Fortunately, she got it "dialed in" a number of years ago till late this past year when her CFC propelled inhalers were replaced. Similar to so many others out there, she has been strugling since. I personally witnessed one asthma attack in this period that I feared was going to take her life." Jeremy Kren, PA, #4353
"My asthma had been WELL CONTROLLED for over 20 years. Now I feel as though every day is a struggle thanks to these over priced air fresheners!!!" Emily Caler, SC, #4378
"How nice that the government can dictate the use of my inhaler! A medication I need to breath!!!! The new cfc free DOES NOT WORK!!! COSTS TWICE AS MUCH AND IS USED UP FASTER!!!" Sherry Wilson, GA #4363
"I have not been able to breathe properly since my inhaler was banned and changed. I have to use double the amount at 4x the cost. Why do I have to suffer and wheeze as I try to work and sleep? The alternative is not working. Until something equivalant is invented you should take it out on dirty industries not the poor sick people."
Miss Boone, PA #4360
"HFA Ventolin inhalers do NOT WORK! The powers at be are putting millions of people in hell, and at risk to death. HELP US! Breathless." Karen Hill, IL #4356
"my asthma was under control ... no problems 12 years with warrick and armstrong... till switch . now its getting worse...im scared and need to breathe.i feel like a prisoner" Judi, CA #4355
"Never in my life have I been so afraid to use an asthma medication. I have been an asthmatic for 27 years and the new hfa inhalers do not help. I had to buy a portable nebulizer which does not even offer instant relief."
Jacqueline Cataldo, NY #4307
"I have used an albuterol rescue inhaler for over 20 years and it gives me instant and lasting relief. The new HFA inhalers actually make me sick. Please do something to reverse this tragic legislation!!! Donna Lawlor, MA #4324
"My asthma has been under control for 10 years, and has now flared seriously in 2009 since the new HFA inhaler rule. No amount of cleaning or priming makes this new inhaler work the same. Bring back the medically necessary CFC inhalers." Jennifer Surowiec, IL #4336
"many more people will have to file for permanant disability, like myself. I would rather work than have to be supported by an already overly burdened gov. program, but my worsening condition gave me no choice." Bob Jasper, NV #4350
"I have been asthmatic all my life. (I am 53) Since the Government forced the switch for asthma inhalers I have increased my nebulizer use by almost double and have already had three rounds of burst and taper with steroids. Also the new inhaler requires several puffs for the same effect as one puff of the old type of inhaler. I want to know who I can sue for this assault on my health and well being." Rachel Paluch, NH #4252
"I have used both the ProAir HFA inhaler and proventil HFA inhaler. I am not getting relief from my asthma symptoms using the new HFA inhalers. The older type of CFC inhalers provided 70% more relief from asthma symptoms."
Brian Bush, CA #4278
"It feels as if our "NO TORTURE" country is not that at all. Not being able to breathe is a god awful TORTURE.. I hope for just one day that these people can have full blown asthma with no help with no asthma inhaler that helps."
Christina Forsman, GA #4279
"I hope someone in power sees these words form everyone who has signed this. I have collapsed my right lung 5 times, the last time was because I was trying to take a deep breath and I coughed and it just popped. I have so much trouble breathing since they switched the CFC Inhalers and I just cannot afford the HFA inhalers, so I am doing without and taking my time at whatever it is I am doing at any givin task. I ring my hands all the time wondering if I will die because I cant breath right. Well..... as long as someone is making a name for themselfs and a little extra pocket change, my life dont matter I guess. PLEASE change this senseless ban on a product that will give me back some kind of normal life and dont let me die this way.!!!!!!!!" Zack Wathern, IN #4209
"I do not expect to live in a life threatening emergency due to the extinction of the CFC asthma inhalers. I too, will probably be extinct by summer. The government has no clue of how many people they are affecting with their bad judgement." Nancy B. Blair, GA #4230
"The HFA inhalers are worthless. They do not help to clear the airway and I my heart races and my hands shake after using it. Terrible substitute for the CFC inhalers." Wendy Beible, PA #4250
"My asthma is the worst it has EVER been since I started having to use proair......my lungs feel like they are on fire everytime I use it......I just had a friend pass away....37 years old of an asthma attack.....now after reading all of this I can bet Proair had alot to do with it." Anonymous, NY #4168
"My close friend, sorority sister, who is also the mother of my great-nephew-is affected. I love her and hate to hear that she is suffering & wonders if her life will be cut short by the loss of her needed inhaler!! I pray that this petition works!!" Dr. Delores J. Harris, MI #4182
"I have asthma and a heart condition. the ONLY inhaler that i could use and that worked was the albuterol inhaler. now its gone and i have to resort to the new ones, that do NOT work. i think it is a shame to take a medication off the market that works for so many people." Ann Gorby, OH #4111
"The new HFA inhalers have not worked at all for me. I need an inhaler for both everyday use and athletics. I have had to quit my hockey leagues because of the danger of having an asthma attack that cannot be suppressed with the new inhalers. Please let me have my inhaler back." Andrew Haas, CO #4125
"I think banning the cfc inhalers was a bad move. Its a money making game, and now i have to go without my medicine. Well somebody needs to do something about this before someone says i had enough and starts going postal on the environment wackos who got this idiotic thing started! HFA inhalers do not work! i am now forced to use my nebulizer for relief because i cant get my regular inhaler which only cost me $10 bucks, now i am forced to buy a far less inferior inhaler which now costs me $50? i say this is bullcrap in a box! I'm one asthma sufferer who isn't gonna take this crap anymore! i have a family. How can i take care of them, when now i can even get up for work because i cant breathe! Bring back our medicine! there are millions of people who are suffering because of this stupid ban! We need relief now,NOT LATER,when most of die from an asthma attack!" William Gamble, PA #4126
"Forget the cost - HFA inhalers are wildly ineffective. Please bring back the CFC albuterol." Dave Stuckey, CA #4075
"I support this petition. I am hopelessly unable to function without fear of suffering an asthma attack that i cant stop. My rescue inhalers that are now prescribed no longer work and i am in constant fear for my pulmonary health. Please bring back the cfc inhalers. HFA inhalers do not work." Jerald A, CA #4077
"Please stop playing politics with life saving medications." Kathleen Petersen, MN #4087
"After thirty years my daughter was finally controlling her asthma with standard inhalers. The ban on CFC inhalers has set her treatment back. We both know that the new HFA inhalers do not work as well for her. In relation to the massive CFC problems that need to be tackled, this seems like a petty token gesture - with lives at stake."
Bonnie Castle, NY #4021
"My sister was switched to Proventil HFA and she is not getting any relief. We are worried about her because on 2005 she almost died with an asthma attack and thanks to her old albuterol inhaler she could hold on until she was taken to the ER. Please bring the old CFC back!!!" Anonymous, NY #3955
"I will die without Primatene Mist. Do you want blood on your hands? Restore it to the public OTC immediately before people suffocate!" Annetta Rygiel, FL #3959
"I only wish I found this petition sooner. This is the epitome of government "help"; putting the "environment" above the health of its citizens. What good is the environment without citizens to enjoy it? They are putting damned trees, fish, anything they can think of above our health. The new inhalers are no where near as efficient as the old. Not only do they not work as well, but the alcohol they put in the formulation actually causes more irritation in my case."
Ken Wallace, GA #3969
"The "new" inhalers propellants is so inadequate that my breathing is constantly restricted. I would like to give the people who signed on for this MY lungs to live with for a week. This targeted the most helpless of us, those of us with a chronic and often debilitating, disease and a big boost to the pocketbook of the pharmaceutical companies. Not only can I not afford my 35 dollar co-pay ( from 5.00 ), but the new propellant DOES NOT WORK and I am sick, quite literally, over this. Who can help us?????"B. Matsumura, HI #3972
"I was switched this month and I am having more breathing problems with it than I did before I was changed over.I hate it .It does not work." Ruth Sides, TN #3975
"I have been an asthmatic almost my entire life. I am 31 years old and have used CFC inhalers which have been extremely effective and have saved my life many times over. The HFA inhalers are totally inferior to the CFC inhalers. They are noticeably less effective and do not relieve symptoms to the extect necessary to control an asthma attack. I do consider myself an environmentalist. These inhalors, though cannot prove a great deal of negative effect on the ozone layer. Until a better alternative has been derived, CFC inhalers must remain available to those of us who truly suffer from a serious and life threatening condition." Keri Stockland, DC #3998
"I have been an albuterol inhaler user for over 20 years, and noticed the difference right away when I was "forced" to switch to an HFA inhaler (Xeopenex). I started coughing more after using it, and getting more frequent heart palpitations. I really hope this petition makes a difference!" Sydney, WA #3901
"I am an asthmatic who has had great success with the cfc inhaler. My insurance carrier for my medications has switched me to the hfa inhaler which I HATE. I have already made my feelings known to the nurse from Caremark (ins carr, provider) Doesn't work as well. I would like to get involved, as I am the one who can"t breathe and would like to have a say in what definitely affects me much more than the environment.! I was diagnosed with asthma 40 years ago, have tried many different medications to get "it" under control. I was using just the cfc , finally after all those years, and doing very well, and "they" changed it. I think it SUCKS. Please I really want to get involved." Debra Freihofer, NY #3903
"Primatene Mist has saved my life and my quality of life more times than I can count!" Anonymous, CA #3926
"This another display of arrogant greed and ignorance and irresponsibility by this government, they will stop at nothing to shine in the bright light of stupidity! They are KILLING people / Us, and we all voted for these idiots! They need to be thrown out!" Tim Jacobson, CA #3927
"The CFC inhaler is much more effective then the Pro-Air inhaler. I have been using the CFC inhaler for years with good results. I was forced to buy the Pro-Air inhaler, which did not work nearly as well, and had to make a trip to the emergency room because of its lack of effectiveness to treat my asthma." Kyle Anderson, DC #3032
"Please, bring back CFC inhalers. Too many are getting sick and having their asthma actually deteriorate using the new HFA inhalers. Thank you." Richard Coppola, AZ #3936
"Are there any sources for purchase of the banned CFC Albuterol inhalers? Maybe some countries which still sell the inhalers? Please, my mother has nearly died a couple of times since the ban and she had to be hospitalized-please help." Lex Townes, TX #3949
"I wonder how the efficacy of HFA inhalers was proven, given how many thousands of people have voiced their opinions on how ineffective they find them. Keep in mind that we who are signing this petition are the minority who actually voices its opinion - while the majority suffers in silence. For every signer, there are doubtless hundreds more not saying anything." Nermene Simaika, NJ #3898
"Please tell my why after having asthma for 50 years, this change is really necessary. I have spoken to my doctor and he agrees people are having trouble with this new formula. I would like whoever forced this change to explain to me why I can go to my hair salon for a hair cut and see all the stylists spraying hair spray using aerosol propellants yet that have made my asthma and therefore my health medication ineffective. This is government at its most ridiculous."
Joan Wator, IL #3878
"I was using Albuterol inhalers for 10 years until the VA insisted on substituting Proventil recently. This is nowhere near as good, and the ban on the Albuterol inhalers is an outrage which will cost many lives." Larry Hughes, MI #3900
"My inhaler is a necessity and could save my life. I have had to use it frequently in the middle of the night. It is imperative that this petition changes what is about to happen to people who need and use inhakers on a regular basis. This is a life threatening issue!" Bobbee DeWine, GA #3816
"I have congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, chronic bronchitis, severe allergies and
asthma. I need my inhalers at least 2 puffs 4 times a day. Since the new inhalers have taken over the pharmacy that I go to, I find myself using about one and a half times more albuterol, atrovent and combivent. I have been trying the different kinds to see what works best and the answer is none of the above. I cannot use steroids or too much albuterol because of my heart condition. It is imperative that we return to the older version and stop this slow killing of people with breathing problems. NOW." Anonymous, CO #3839
"I have relied on my inhaler for 26 years and these new formulations offer very little relief when I am having difficultybreathing." Matt Ostrow, FL #3845
"I really miss my CFC inhaler. It did the job in a few seconds flat, 1 to 2 puffs only. With the new inhaler, I have to use 4x the amount of medicine, at least, every time. My asthma has suffered greatly from the switch. I do not believe that the new inhalers are as effective as the CFC inhalers, nor do I believe the replacement will save the ozone layer from significant damage." Courtney, TX #3849
"Inhalers with HFA in them, such as QVAR, actually increase my asthma symptoms instead of relieving them. I firmly believe that, deprived of my CFC Albuterol inhaler, I will one day die of an asthma attack." Randall Marks, CA #3033
"The Atrovent and ProAir inhalers I got with the HFA propellant do not give me the relief the CFA ones did - basically no relief at all. Not being able to breathe is a serious problem for me. Also, changing the propellant has put these back into the “brand name” category on my insurance company’s formulary which means I pay $78 for 90 days vs $10 for 90 days. I’m on Medicare and see that all the Medicare plans now only have the “brand name” versions. RIP-OFF!! The generic versions should still be readily available." Marty Munsos, CA #3193
"Just to make my earlier post clear: Primetene Mist is the only inhaler that does not disturb my sleep. I can use it right before I go to bed with no problems. Albuteral makes my heart feel like it is pounding in my chest and keeps me awake. I wonder if this product will be availble in other countries?" L. Lechner, IL #3233
"PLEASE keep the CFC inhalers. Both my husband and mother are asthmatic. The new inhalers do NOT work."
Bev Keller, PA #3292
"I think the people who decided to ban this are murderers. How can you take away the one thing that so many people depend on and replace with with something that doesnt even work. Bring back the old inhalers!!!!!"
Beonka Robinson, MD #3379
"PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP US, I AM GETTING SICKER FROM THESE INHALERS. I AM THE SOLE PROVIDER IN MY HOUSEHOULD I NEED THE ORIGINAL INHALER TO LIVE. PLEASE HELP ME BREATHE AGAIN, HELP US ALL BREATHE!"
Jeffrey Storms, PA #3384
"Please Keep the CFC inhalers available. My brothers life depends on them. The HFA inhaler doesnt work for him and he suffers to the point where is completely overwhelmed with anxiety almost daily. If the athsma doesnt suffocate him the stress will surely kill him." James Storms, AZ #3429
"Because of the chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) propellant metered-dose inhaler Alupent MDI will no longer be available nas of 12/31/08 The manufacture Boehringer Ingelheim say that they have no plans to reformulate the product. Alupent inhalers have been a life saver to me. I have tried dozens of other inhalers without any successful results. Ive asked the manufacture to suggest a replacement inhaler, Ive asked my pharmacist about a suitable replacement and was told that they knew of nothing that would work as well, Ive asked my primary care physician and he has no idea what to prescribe as a replacement. The EPA and FDA has more or less said that they dont care what happens to the people that use and depend on lifesaving chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) propellant metered-dose inhalers (MDIs)" Kramlich, CA #3498
"My Sister has severe chronic copd and cannot use the pro air or any hfa inhaler, because they do not open her airways. Please bring back the Albuterol so breathing wil be more effective for and quicker for her airways to open."
Francine Stricker, PA #523
"I did not realize until today (May 13, 2008) that CFC inhalers were being banned. The asthma suffering public has received virtually no notice regarding this ban. The new HFA inhalers DO NOT WORK! I had thought that my asthma symptoms had worsened, and thought it odd that old, past expiration date inhalers were alleviating my symptoms while brand new ones did not. I now realize why this is happening and that it was not my imagination. This ban is a medical disaster in the making for illusory environmental benefits. This ban must be reversed. Make no mistake, asthma inhalers are nothing less than miracle workers for asthma sufferers. These devices enable asthma sufferers to travel far from home free of the concern that they will be require hospitalization in an unfamiliar place. Inhalers allow asthmatics to lead active, full lives. Inhalers also limit required hospitalizations, reducing medical costs and life disruptions. Asthma sufferers are careful to carry inhalers with them wherever they go, and keep multiple inhalers in useful locations. This medicine matters! If federal regulators are going to alter a medication that has literally transformed the lives of millions of their fellow citizens, they had better do so carefully with an eye to cost and medical effectiveness above all other aspects. There are lives at stake. It is clear that the decision to ban CFC inhalers was made without regard to cost or medical effectiveness. It is long past the time for zealotry to take a backseat to common sense. There are millions of Americans who are and are going to be profoundly harmed by this regulatory action. I urge anyone with the power to make a change to reverse this ban. It is a well-intentioned mistake." Eric Wigginton, NJ #2132
"I used the Serevent inhaler along with my Proventil inhaler for two years. I felt great for the first time in years I could breath. I can no longer get Serevent (only in powder which is useless same as Advair) and now my Proventil is no longer available. Between the powder Serevent and Proventil HFA I have zero energy, I can't catch my breath. What is the plan? We need these inhalers to LIVE. Or maybe that is the plan." Faith Wiest, MN #154
"It seems ludicrous to put ethanol, a bronchial restricting toxin, in an inhaler for people who are having trouble breathing. Imagine opening your mouth and not being able to get any air. It is like drowning. I have had asthma all my life and all I can say is if this thing goes through, I hope the class action lawsuit(s) make the decision makers feel as if they cannot get any air!" Robin Cook, CT
I will be fighting for my life." Marla Del Collins, NY #2099

2 puffs .. 4 times daily, I use the HFAinhaler 3 puffs (at least) 6 times a day.
"I can barely breathe without the old ones by Warrick. An inhaler that used to last forever now lasts maybe 4 weeks. They just aren't good enough." Josh Pasqualini, CA #1984
"They can tell me the medicine is the same but, if I don't have enough air to inhale as deeply for it to be effective what good is it. I'm sick of people making laws so I can't breathe but they still manufacturer cigarettes. It's insane."
Sharon Orozco, IL #1986
"I have asthma and I have tons of allergies, one of them being corn. Any inhaler using ethenol is a death notice for someone like me, I really believe that the do gooders in this world don't give a hoot about the 3 million of us who rely on our inhalers." Joan Grimm, IL #1988
"the new inhalers do not work i am so afraid everyday that i'll have a severe attack and not get enough relief from my inhaler" Irene Diericks, IL #1994
"I am not being served equivently with ProAir HFA as I was with the generic CFC albuterol. I must now use 4-10 puffs and do not always get relief. I am therefore now using albuterol nebulizer treatments as a rescue method with no backup. I can no longer exercise as I used to, which causes other problems." Mary L Nelson, MN #2028
"I find the new inhalers totally useless. There is nothing more fightening than being able to breathe and trying to use the new inhaler. It takes so many puffs I am afraid I will fall over before I get some relief." Barbara Malik, IL #2029
"This is totally absurd - I am an environmentalist but I understand that this has a negligible effect on the ozone layer. With all of the trespasses being made against our resources and environment, why pick on people who can't breathe?" Annie Cotten, NY #2043
"Albuturol CFC inhalers allow me to live a normal life. Without this inhaler, I am truly handicapped. This ban is inhumane to athmatics!!! I thought the function of government was to protect not cripple its citizens." Christine Adams, PA #2047
"Restore CFC Albuterol inhalers!!! My asthma has gotten worse on ProAir inhaler and I have not been able to breathe properly." Julie Carrasco, TX #2055
"Knock off the political BS. Who is getting their pocket lined? Stop making our lives worse. I can't afford my medication as it is! Why are you doing this to your citizens?" Neal Alders, FL #2070
"The environment is very important. However, people are even more important! This makes absolutely no sense. Keep Warrick inhalers on the market!" C. McQuade, NY #2072
"This type of inhaler is the only kind that works for me. Please reconsider your ban on the CFC propellant inhaler. I need it for my survival" Matthew Flatley, WI #2083
"I've used the Warrick "CFC" albuterol inhaler for seasonal allergies with accompanying asthma with great results. One puff, once a day and I'm fine. Recently I have been prescribed ProAir which I tried last night and it made my symptoms worse and I almost had to go to the ER. Please bring back the CFC inhalers so everyone who suffers from asthma can breath easier. These new HFA inhalers do not work." Aaron Diemel, CA #2086
"I THINK THAT WHEN OUR POLITICIANS LISTEN TO NO GOOD LOBBYISTS REGARDING MILLIONS OF PEOPLES MEDICINE, MEDICINE THAT SAVES LIVES ON A DAILY BASIS, I THINK THAT THOSE POLITICIANS SHOULD BE OUSTED AND NEVER ALLOWED BACK IN ANY PUBLIC OFFICE AGAIN. THE HFA INHALERS DO NOT ADMINISTER THE MEDICINE EFFECTIVELY. THE MEDICINE SITS IN MY THROAT AND NEVER GETS TO MY LUNGS. APPARENTLY MY LIFE MEANS NOTHING TO THESE POLITICIANS" CANDICE HOLLINGER, CA #2091
"I have asthma. I cannot tolerate the HFA albuterol inhalers. I am allergic to them. I can only use the CFC albuterol inhalers, which I can still get. But when they are banned, I will have to switch to a nebulizer, which I don't know if I can handle. If that doesn't work I WILL DIE. That isn't fair. Please fix this problem so I can continue to breath and not die before my time." Paulette Brady, CA #1983
"For fourteen years I have had asthma that was completely controlled under my CFC Inhaler. I used to be extremely active in various activities including swimming, running, horseback riding and now I can barely get up a flight of stairs. I am a teacher and all of my absences are affecting my children's performance. I have tried "acceptable alternatives" for CFC Inhalers but have only ended up more sick due to their side effects. I know my case isnt the worst and I know I'm not alone. They cannot do this to us!" Jeannette Glime FL, #1958
"I have used these inhalers about 8 times and have not had good results. There is no worse feeling than not being able to breath and now I have no confidence these new inhalers will ever work. Please leave rescue type meds alone!!" James Ciccolo, MA #1930
"I have to tell you.. My heart rate increases with use of this product, I had a very scary episode a week ago that made me wish for a minute that my asthma got the best of me. I had an alergic reaction to something, and it took 5 puffs of this stupid inhaler (proair hfa) and a nebulizer treatment for my breathing to be restored. My lung function has decreased with use of this thing. Remember politicians can be voted out just as easy as they can be voted in. Safe a few lifes washington. it may justify everything else you do... bring back the cfc inhaler" Michael Land, CT #1880
"I have had severe chronic asthma for over 25 years, along with severe allergies, and sinus. Until the FDA mandated a change from CFC to HFA inhalers, combining prescription medications with a very regimented lifestyle (that included restrictions on environment, food, some medications, and sundry other items) enabled Me to live a life that was about 80% normal. The new HFA propellants (Qvar & Proventil HFA) each gave me an extremely severe asthma attack. The control of my asthma has declined dramatically! And I have NO EMERGENCY INHALER! Friends with asthma tell me that the HFA inhalers just dont deliver the medicine. My insurance company has mailed me a notice that the HFA propellants require much more force to inhale! This would be ironically funny if it were not a matter of life and breath. Restore CFC inhalers!" P Johnson, NJ #1870
"Oh please, please bring back my old albuterol inhaler. With the pro-air, I just can't inhale. Selfish me, I care more about being able to breath than political correctness." Connie Jewell Byerley, MO #1857
"Please help me breath again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just want my old med. back. As if it's not bad enough not to be able to breath and now you can't get the ONLY med. which helped." Melody Schmitz, MO #1824
"The new HFA inhalers are a direct threat to people's health. They do *NOT* work like the old inhalers did and should be taken off the market immediately and the old inhalers brought back!" David Rheault, MD #1817
"I wouldn't wish the agonizing death from anoxia on anyone. Why is my government forcing it on me?"
Marc A. Pozza, OH #1813
"Since age 2 I have relied on inhalers. The new ones do not work and made my breathing much worse. I am currently getting the old ones from Mexico." Mary Earhart, CA #1812
"I hate the new inhalers. I would like to have the old Warwick CFC back The HFA does not relieve symptoms. Thanks" Adolphine Slattery, FL #1810
"I have a life threatening corn allergy, which make the use of ethanol (corn alcohol) in inhalers deadly for me. Please help save my life." Christine Robinson, CO #1804
"We need the old inhalers back. My poor son already cannot afford his preventative so has to use his inhaler more often. Now, he has to get an inhaler that is not only ineffective (just AWFUL) but is more than double the price of his old one. They need to bring the old albuterol inhalers back NOW for the sake of many people. I will never be convinced that the environmental concerns are that serious. My 80 year old mother cannot tolerate the new inhalers, either, so now uses NOTHING!" Anonymous, MN #4093
"I was a cfc abuterol emergency inhaler user. The inhaler was the only way I could receive relief from my asthma. The hfa product , Proair< has little or no affect on me . Yes, lets make the cfc Albuterol legal again, not only for me , but for the great multidude of asthma sufferers." Joe Dowda, GA #4640
"Bring back CFC inhalers for the sake of all asthmatics." Michael Dobbs, OR November 1, 2009
"At 2 years of age, I was diagnosed with severe asthma. Since then, I have been easily able to manage my asthma for the past 29 years with my CFC Albuterol rescue inhaler and my Nebulizer Machine twice a year. I haven't "needed" to visit any hospitals for my asthma symptoms for at least 13 years now. Since the switch to non-CFC Ventolin (with the handy dose counter on the back of the canister), I am needing to use 3 times as much (which certainly cannot be healthy by any means). I do not believe that banning the CFC inhalers has anything to do with protecting our environment, it's a coverup to legalize the ban so that more money is being made by selling the HFA inhalers. Luckily my children do not have asthma, but if they did, I don't think I could bear seeing my children going through so much pain. We need to ban this ban and get our needed medications back!" Julie Wilder, AR October 30, 2009
"Please bring back the old CFC asthma inhalers. One puff used to relieve my symptoms, now, 2 to 3 puffs don't work. If you have never been on your knees gasping for breath due to an asthma attack, you have no idea how scary it is to be relying on the new class of inhalers. They just don't work! Thank you." Marie Barlow, DE October 30
"HFA inhalers do not work. I've had too many asthma scares as a result of the switch, and being denied the right to CHOOSE a CFC inhaler is unconstitutional." Joshua Taylor, IL October 29, 2009
"I had two inhalers that I used. Both Proventil, one the orginal CFC inhaler and one of the new ones (HFA). I was pregnant with my third child (my asthma gets worse while I'm pregnant) and was experiencing shortness of breath and wheezing more than usual. The only one that I could get relief from was the original CFC inhaler and used it as long as I could. Then I asked my doctor about getting another one, and she told me the new ones are the same and even though I told her I didn't feel it worked as well, she didn't seem to acknowledge my concern and prescribed me another new inhaler. I still don't feel it works as well, but now its all I have." Courtney Fietkau, OK October 29, 2009
"The pro-air I was given has made my asthma worse. It gave me no relief despite priming it and washing it as directed." Harry Schwartz, PA October 29, 2009
"I was wondering why my inhaler wasn't working for me. Thank God I found out about this! My asthma is the worse its ever been. We need the old inhalers back or people might die." Anita Kurek, MD October 29, 2009
"I had to leave work early today because I had an asthma attack and my proventil hfa "emergency" inhaler did not work. I did not get relief until I got home and took albuterol via nebulizer. As a nurse, I can attest that these new inhalers don't work, as many of my patients also tell me that they dont work for them either." Kimberley, Eaton, FL October 29, 2009
"I have used Intal inhalers for years and it along with Serevent have maintained my Asthma well. I am now using the nebulized Intal which is not nearly working as well. The discontinued use of CFC inhalers Primarily Intal for me is detrimental to my overall health." Vicki Loucks, NM October 27, 2009
"I don't understand why, when one finally finds a safe medicine to help with breathing problems, that it gets discontinued. Why are we left with steroid drugs & other drugs that have potential dangerous side effects & health consequences. The Intal Inhaler is mild & it works without future health problems. I'm disgusted that the choices we get are detrimental to our health. I will not take them. I want the Cromolyn Inhalers back. Please, think about the individuals who rely on these mild drugs for our well being. Thank You." Susan Cooper, CA October 25, 2009
"I have exercise induced asthma and environmental allergies. For 30 years my asthma was readily controllable by the use of CFC inhalers. During this time I was able to run in road races and do other types of strenuous exercise without problem. But now my asthma has gotten worse since I have been using the HFA inhalers. I need to use the new inhalers more often (often midway through an exercise session) and am regularly exceeding the recommended dose to try to get the same relief I used to get with one inhalation. Bring back the CFC inhalers please!"
Joanne Corsano, MA October 24, 2009
"It takes 6 puffs to attempt to control a bronchiospasm with ProAir HFA. That's completely unreasonable."
Rachel Carter, NJ October 24, 2009
"The hfa simply does not work as well - These are for immediate relief of symptoms and the cfc power and feel was way more effective. Very scary not to have the cfc. This is likely causing deaths not merely suffering. Ridiculous ban! I'm so much more nervous without the CFC version." Steven Johnson, IL October 23, 2009
"I have use these new inhalers for as long as they have been the only thing available, and they definitely do not work as well. I have to use twice the number of puffs, and even then it is not as effective. I will go out of the country to get them if necessary." Shirley Larsh, NM October 22, 2009
"I had no idea that the inhalers had changed but I have noticed that they didn't work as usual.what a waste of a product that i feel like i have to use the proair twice as often and that can't be good for my body." Sue Bullen, OR October 21, 2009
"I have been using the Alupent inhaler for over 20 years without issue. I fear I will be visiting the ER now that this atrocity has taken it's hold on me as well, which I have not been to the ER for almost 20 years because the Alupent has ALWAYS saved me before. How despicable that they think by eliminating this obviously desperately needed CFC inhaler is going to impact the ozone in a positive manner. All the while, factories, buses, cars, the list could go on and on, continue to destroy the ozone worse than even a 100 million CFC inhaler ever possibly could. I am so livid that we have to suffer due to this inconceivable approximation. Cant they just substitute the CFC propellant with something else??? Seriously, how hard could it be? What is it going to take, a child dying, a hundred children dying? UNBELIEVABLE!! God help us all!"
Chad Kissinger, PA October 21, 2009
"I have tried to use the HFA inhalers....and am an OLD pro at proper inhalation method. These inhalers are not anywhere near as efficacious as the old CFC albuterol inhalers.....PLEASE bring them back. I can't imagine we asthmatics will use enough of the CFC's to cause any ozone damage." Debra Bates, FL October 20, 2009
"I have tried 2 different inhalers since the changeover and they do not work as well and cause me to use them more often. I was at my doctors office this am and he told me he has heard this many times from his patients. He is now having me try another med called Combivent." Glenn Butler, FL October 20, 2009
"My doctor prescribed albuterol as a replacement for my epinephrine inhaler saying that the epinephrine increased the heart rate. I've used Primatene Mist since 1970 without any medical problem. I noticed that the albuterol product, also, raised my heart rate for about the same short period that PM did. Most importantly, I noticed that the albuterol didn't take away my asthma symptoms like epinephrine did. I hope you are successful in getting the attention of FDA on this issue, because I am, frankly, afraid of what is going to happen when I no longer have access to my PM when I have a breathing episode." Mary Smith, GA October 20, 2009
"I agree, they are not as effective as the old ones. I blame Al Gore for this!!! no Propellant and my Alupent is not made with the new propellant." Tree Edens, NM October 19, 2009
"I realize that we need to be aware of the effects of a variety of substances on the environment but I feel very strongly that extending the bans on substances such as asthma medications is extreme and unnecessary. Millions of citizens, including myself depend on these medications everyday for our quality of life and general well being. There is no substitute for the medication that I was provided that is now no longer available. This has a tremendous negative impact on not on my life but the life of my family and co-workers. I urge you to reconsider the actions to ban these substances and allow the makers of Intal (cromolyn sodium) to continue manufacturing." Denise Hammel-Jones, PA October 19, 2009
"The non-CFC inhalers DO NOT work well!!! Not being able to breathe is very scary and I want an inhaler that actually helps get me clear quickly." Kaitlyn Irujo, MA October 19, 2009
"Ever since my Albuterol inhaler was switched to this ProAir Inhaler HFA I have had nothing but problems. It seems I'm using the inhaler more often due to not having relief of shortness of breath and wheezing. Then it seems to get "clogged" and I end up wasting a good protion trying to "unclog" just to get temporary relief. I've had to use my nebulizer more often just to get the relief I used to get with my Albuterol." Erin Gilles, OH October 18, 2009
"Nothing is so scary as when you can't breathe. Please reconsider the use of CFC's in asthma inhalers."
Janae Hutchison, UT October 17, 2009
"It is 4:30 AM and I can't sleep because my inhaler is not relieving my asthma attack. I decided to find out if anyone else has noticed this problem since doing away with the former inhalers and come to find out I am not alone. It is scary that the government is deciding what we need, and taking away meds that help us. Imagine if this healthcare plan gets passed. Oh God Help us.." Brenda Douglas, NH October 15, 2009
"My asthma is sports induced. I cannot work out because my rescue inhaler doesn't control my asthma after a work out now. It was fine and under control until I had to switch inhalers. This is not a mental issue! I am so tired of hearing that the adjustment takes time and to be patient. It's hard to be patient when you cannot breathe. PLEASE bring back the CFC inhalers that work!" Krista Minster, WA October 16, 2009
"I am for this petition, as I was prescribed an asthma inhaler that has no CFC's called Pro Air (a substitution for albuterol). Unfortunately, because of this new mechanism, my inhaler would clog up often, including during asthma attacks!" Frank Martello, MA October 16, 2009
"When I feel and attack coming on the I need 3 - 4 puffs of the HFC device to the 1 - 2 puffs of the CFC. That is if the device is not clogged or malfunctioning in some other way. I have this problem with this device after it has been used 2 to 3 times. There are times when I am on a bus or not any kind of medical help when the device fails. I am very frightened...my asthma is no longer under my control because of this HFA." Kerry Olsen, NJ #4621
"A tiny pocketsized inhaler that can help me to breathe without using dangerous steroids can't have that much impact on the environment that you feel compelled to take away my safe medication and force me to use a dangerous medication. For goodness sake this is big time over kill. Let the little guys breathe."
Sincerely, a voter, Billie Kerouac, IL October 14, 2009
"A friend with severe asthma, who has to regularly visit the emergency room to resolve her attacks, passionately supports this cause. Therefore, I support it as a way to save her and possibly other lives and livelihoods."
Shawna Revak, OR October 14, 2009
"I noticed a huge change when the switch happened! I have had asthma for 20 years and now I have to use the new inhaler 4X instead of one puff just to have it help at all----I hate it!" Jennie Hohenshelt, WA October 14, 2009
"I absolutely need the old inhaler for rescue inhaling. The non- CFC version does not provide relief in an actual attack. I only use it with my spacer for maintenance treatments. Please bring back the inhalers that contain CFC."
Lisa Egger, WA, October 13, 2009
"I strongly stand behind this petition, I was diagnosed with adult onset asthma when I was 26, I am 28 now. Honestly for a while, the Proventil inhalers have gotten me through some tough times with my asthma, but for the past 5 months, those inhalers have not helped me at all..I've even had a few ICU stays because of my asthma."
Cari O'Connor, WA October 13, 2009
"I have been prescribed ProAir for nearly a year and the inhaler clogs. I would like my money back for each $25 co-pay spent on these useless inhalers. I support a class action lawsuit to pay back all co-pays paid out be people that are forced to purchase ProAir." MaryEllen Biros, MA October 13, 2009
"I am 57 yrs old and have used inhalers since I was 18 yrs old and this inhaler burns my throat and doesnt provide relief like the cfc inhalers. The new ones are not the same. I have to use twice as much to get any relief when my asthma flares up." Edwin Totten, AZ October 12, 2009
"The ProAir HFA (Albuterol) that I'm now forced to use does not work anywhere as well as the Albuterol CFC inhaler that I previously used. Bring back the generic Albuterol CFC so that we can all breath easier."
James Hegyes, AZ October 12, 2009
"To my dismay when I first used an HFA inhaler it did not relieve my shortness of breath. I would need to use several additional puff to get some small relief. I am concerned that this situation may eventually lead to my death if not from the shortness of breath then from possible overdosing. What in the hell is the matter with the FDA and people who brought this about? Why are they putting my life and the lives of countless other people at risk?" Anonymous, NY #4616 "I have had asthma since I was three. My asthma has been under good control for years. I just started using this new inhaler this past week and it doesn't work. I feel like this new inhaler is just not putting out the medicine and I have to use more puffs to get anything out of it. I'm nervous about using it with my toddler since the old style inhaler works so well with the spacer he requires with the inhaler. This is terrible and now I am uncomfortable, upset and very nervous." "The new HFC inhalers do NOT work....and have made my breathing situation worse. Proventil (and others) are supposed to be "rescue" inhalers..... HFC inhalers do not rescue you -- and there is no way to "deeply inhale" when you are gasping for air. It made my bronchitis worse..." Anne Janeski, VA September 8, 2009 "JUST ANOTHER GOVERNMENT SCREW UP. I BET WHO EVER MADE THIS DECISION WAS NOT DEPENDENT ON A RESCUE INHALER. I'VE BEEN IN ER 3 TIMES THIS YEAR. NEW INHALER DOES NOT -- I REPEAT DOES NOT WORK - REPEAT- DOES NOT WORK." Deborah Austin, TN September 8, 2009 "Since using the new medicines I'm having attacks all the time. Joan Grimm, IL #1988 "the new inhalers do not work i am so afraid everyday that i'll have a severe attack and not get enough relief from my inhaler" Irene Diericks, IL #1994 "I am not being served equivently with ProAir HFA as I was with the generic CFC albuterol. I must now use 4-10 puffs and do not always get relief. I am therefore now using albuterol nebulizer treatments as a rescue method with no backup. I can no longer exercise as I used to, which causes other problems." Mary L Nelson, MN #2028 "I find the new inhalers totally useless. There is nothing more fightening than being able to breathe and trying to use the new inhaler. It takes so many puffs I am afraid I will fall over before I get some relief." Barbara Malik, IL #2029 "This is totally absurd - I am an environmentalist but I understand that this has a negligible effect on the ozone layer. With all of the trespasses being made against our resources and environment, why pick on people who can't breathe?" Annie Cotten, NY #2043 "Albuturol CFC inhalers allow me to live a normal life. Without this inhaler, I am truly handicapped. This ban is inhumane to athmatics!!! I thought the function of government was to protect not cripple its citizens." Christine Adams, PA #2047 "Restore CFC Albuterol inhalers!!! My asthma has gotten worse on ProAir inhaler and I have not been able to breathe properly." Julie Carrasco, TX #2055 "Pro Air inhalers really suck! They don't help my asthma and they don't even last as long as the Warrick Albuterol inhlaers which work so much better. It's like we're being ripped off!! Please save Warrick Albuterol CFC inhalers!!" "Knock off the political BS. Who is getting their pocket lined? Stop making our lives worse. I can't afford my medication as it is! Why are you doing this to your citizens?" Neal Alders, FL #2070 "The environment is very important. However, people are even more important! This makes absolutely no sense. Keep Warrick inhalers on the market!" C. McQuade, NY #2072 "Everyone who sees this please sign my husband needs this bad. These last two weeks would have been unbearable if he didn't have his inhaler. He has been an asthmatic all his life and this is the only thing that helps him. If he didn't have his inhaler he would have been in the ER. The other crap don't work and they know it they just want us to keep going back to the doctor to waste more money! I believe the worst feeling you can have is suffocation but he has to go through it almost everyday. And he would actually suffocate if it was not for his inhaler so please sign this and pray that god listens so my soulmate and everyone else out there suffering like him can breathe a little easier!" "This type of inhaler is the only kind that works for me. Please reconsider your ban on the CFC propellant inhaler. I need it for my survival" Matthew Flatley, WI #2083 "I've used the Warrick "CFC" albuterol inhaler for seasonal allergies with accompanying asthma with great results. One puff, once a day and I'm fine. Recently I have been prescribed ProAir which I tried last night and it made my symptoms worse and I almost had to go to the ER. Please bring back the CFC inhalers so everyone who suffers from asthma can breath easier. These new HFA inhalers do not work." Aaron Diemel, CA #2086 "I THINK THAT WHEN OUR POLITICIANS LISTEN TO NO GOOD LOBBYISTS REGARDING MILLIONS OF PEOPLES MEDICINE, MEDICINE THAT SAVES LIVES ON A DAILY BASIS, I THINK THAT THOSE POLITICIANS SHOULD BE OUSTED AND NEVER ALLOWED BACK IN ANY PUBLIC OFFICE AGAIN. THE HFA INHALERS DO NOT ADMINISTER THE MEDICINE EFFECTIVELY. THE MEDICINE SITS IN MY THROAT AND NEVER GETS TO MY LUNGS. APPARENTLY MY LIFE MEANS NOTHING TO THESE POLITICIANS" CANDICE HOLLINGER, CA #2091 "I have asthma. Please fix this problem so I can continue to breath and not die before my time." Paulette Brady, CA #1983 "For fourteen years I have had asthma that was completely controlled under my CFC Inhaler. They cannot do this to us!" Jeannette Glime FL, #1958 "These NEW HFA inhalers DO NOT WORK they make my asthma worse. Please don't let me suffer all I ask is that I can breathe" Janice Crotzer, CA #1940 "This is having a significant effect on my life-- I've had to reduce exercise in the winter months to almost nothing because my new rescue inhalers simply do not work." Kevin J. Causgrove, MI #1939 "I have used these inhalers about 8 times and have not had good results. There is no worse feeling than not being able to breath and now I have no confidence these new inhalers will ever work. Please leave rescue type meds alone!!" James Ciccolo, MA #1930 "I have to tell you.. Safe a few lifes washington. it may justify everything else you do... bring back the cfc inhaler" Michael Land, CT #1880 "I have had severe chronic asthma for over 25 years, along with severe allergies, and sinus. Restore CFC inhalers!" P Johnson, NJ #1870 "Oh please, please bring back my old albuterol inhaler. With the pro-air, I just can't inhale. Selfish me, I care more about being able to breath than political correctness." Connie Jewell Byerley, MO #1857 "Please help me breath again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just want my old med. back. As if it's not bad enough not to be able to breath and now you can't get the ONLY med. which helped." Melody Schmitz, MO #1824 "The new HFA inhalers are a direct threat to people's health. They do *NOT* work like the old inhalers did and should be taken off the market immediately and the old inhalers brought back!" David Rheault, MD #1817 "I almost died one month after beginning use of this inhaler. I have never been hospitalized for asthma, untill use of PROair HFA. I have no clue why but it just does not work. I want my life back." Christopher S Cantrell, NM #1815 "I wouldn't wish the agonizing death from anoxia on anyone. Why is my government forcing it on me?" "Since age 2 I have relied on inhalers. The new ones do not work and made my breathing much worse. I am currently getting the old ones from Mexico." Mary Earhart, CA #1812 "I hate the new inhalers. I would like to have the old Warwick CFC back The HFA does not relieve symptoms. Thanks" Adolphine Slattery, FL #1810 "I have a life threatening corn allergy, which make the use of ethanol (corn alcohol) in inhalers deadly for me. Please help save my life." Christine Robinson, CO #1804 "Are there any sources for purchase of the banned CFC Albuterol inhalers? Maybe some countries which still sell the inhalers? Please, my mother has nearly died a couple of times since the ban and she had to be hospitalized-please help." Lex Townes, TX #3949 "I wonder how the efficacy of HFA inhalers was proven, given how many thousands of people have voiced their opinions on how ineffective they find them. Keep in mind that we who are signing this petition are the minority who actually voices its opinion - while the majority suffers in silence. For every signer, there are doubtless hundreds more not saying anything." Nermene Simaika, NJ #3898 "Please tell my why after having asthma for 50 years, this change is really necessary. This is government at its most ridiculous." "I was using Albuterol inhalers for 10 years until the VA insisted on substituting Proventil recently. This is nowhere near as good, and the ban on the Albuterol inhalers is an outrage which will cost many lives." Larry Hughes, MI #3900 "My inhaler is a necessity and could save my life. I have had to use it frequently in the middle of the night. It is imperative that this petition changes what is about to happen to people who need and use inhakers on a regular basis. This is a life threatening issue!" Bobbee DeWine, GA #3816 "I have congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, chronic bronchitis, severe allergies and asthma. It is mperative that we return to the older version and stop this slow killing of people with breathing problems. NOW." "I really miss my CFC inhaler. It did the job in a few seconds flat, 1 to 2 puffs only. With the new inhaler, I have to use 4x the amount of medicine, at least, every time. My asthma has suffered greatly from the switch. I do not believe that the new inhalers are as effective as the CFC inhalers, nor do I believe the replacement will save the ozone layer from significant damage." Courtney, TX #3849 "Inhalers with HFA in them, such as QVAR, actually increase my asthma symptoms instead of relieving them. I firmly believe that, deprived of my CFC Albuterol inhaler, I will one day die of an asthma attack." Randall Marks, CA #3033 "The Atrovent and ProAir inhalers I got with the HFA propellant do not give me the relief the CFA ones did - basically no relief at all. Not being able to breathe is a serious problem for me. Also, changing the propellant has put these back intothe “brand name” category on my insurance company’s formulary which means I pay $78 for 90 days vs $10 for 90 days. I’m on Medicare and see that all the Medicare plans now only have the “brand name” versions. RIP-OFF!! The generic versions should still be readily available." Marty Munsos, CA #3193 "Just to make my earlier post clear: Primetene Mist is the only inhaler that does not disturb my sleep. I can use it right before I go to bed with no problems. Albuteral makes my heart feel like it is pounding in my chest and keeps me awake. I wonder if this product will be availble in other countries?" L. Lechner, IL #3233 "PLEASE keep the CFC inhalers. Both my husband and mother are asthmatic. The new inhalers do NOT work." "I think the people who decided to ban this are murderers. How can you take away the one thing that so many people depend on and replace with with something that doesnt even work. Bring back the old inhalers!!!!!" "PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP US, I AM GETTING SICKER FROM THESE INHALERS. I AM THE SOLE PROVIDER IN MY HOUSEHOULD I NEED THE ORIGINAL INHALER TO LIVE. PLEASE HELP ME BREATHE AGAIN, HELP US ALL BREATHE!" "Please Keep the CFC inhalers available. My brothers life depends on them. The HFA inhaler doesnt work for him and he suffers to the point where is completely overwhelmed with anxiety almost daily. If the athsma doesnt suffocate him the stress will surely kill him." James Storms, AZ #3429 "My Sister has severe chronic copd and cannot use the pro air or any hfa inhaler, because they do not open her airways. Please bring back the Albuterol so breathing wil be more effective for and quicker for her airways to open." "I did not realize until today (May 13, 2008) that CFC inhalers were being banned. It is a well-intentioned mistake." Eric Wigginton, NJ #2132 "I used the Serevent inhaler along with my Proventil inhaler for two years. Or maybe that is the plan." Faith Wiest, MN #154 "Please stop the madness and stop attacking those of us with asthma! Who cares if we shoot CFC's into our lungs so we can stay alive? This environmentalism has run amok and is hurting WORKING PEOPLE & PEOPLE WITH A SERIOUS CHRONIC ILLNESS. Where is the Democratic Party that used to stand up for the working class in OUR COUNTRY?" "I have Asthma and the new change in Inhalers does not work for me.I have been to the Emergency Room because I cannot get my breath.I did not have this problem before. Please bring our old Inhalers back. Its a matter of Life and Death!" Betty Kosegi, OH #292 "The HFA Albuterol inhaler is not working for me like the CFC Albuterol inhaler did. I can no longer run, and I have trouble sleeping because I can't breathe despite using the HFA multiple times!!" Laura A. Weiland, PA #371 "Please reinstate the use of CFC's in medical inhalers! The new HFA does not work as well as the previous inhalers and I use my inhaler twice as much...IT HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE! They are not as effective and I have had asthma for 20 years...PLEASE hear our request to return to CFC inhalers!" Kim Litvinow, NJ #523 "Please don't take this much needed item of the market. Not using the old inhaler alomost killed my friend and now she has permanent damage to her heart, becasue of a resulting heart attack. Her health has been in continual decline since she changed inhalers." D Ette, NM #1420 There are many people who have mastocytosis who depend on this medication in order to BREATHE. Do you know how precious a breath is? We do because we cannot BREATHE! Some of us also have heart problems. I am lucky enough to have both! and I can not BREATHE. Anyone with bronchial symptoms may have problems with other inhalers that cause heart symptoms. INTAL INHALER IS THE ONLY ONE THAT DOES NOT CAUSE HEART SYMPTOMS. So, as this may be an "orphan drug", there are many that depend on it, and more who would if they knew about it. PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS MEDICATION AWAY FROM US. OUR VERY BREATH DEPENDS UPON IT AND THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE. I am an asthma sufferer and this issue is important in all countries. I support environmental protection, but human health must also be very high on the priority list. Catherine Greenall WY, 2/2010 Banning these inhalers in the name of the environment is ridiculous. You are telling us that our right to breath somehow causes pollution. INSANE! Worry about banning things that cause people to have trouble breathing, not things that The new inhalers just don't work as well. I have had more problems with my asthma control since the new inhaler! The new inhalers don't help my asthma as much as the cfc type. I actually get worse symptoms at times from them. Please change them back!! The removal of cfc inhalers with hfa inhalers is truly criminal. It's obvious the people who made this decision do not, nor do their family members, have breathing difficulties. Bring back the cfc inhalers for all of us who need them! My asthma has gotten progressively worse since the CFC ban on inhalers. Im willing to support this campaign and hope that it moves to a class action law suit against these no nothing belt-way politicians. The new HFA inhalers don't work. I was told by both my doctors offcie and the pharmacy that these new inhalers sometimes don't work and there is nothing that can be done about it! There is a blog at this website detailing the problems people are having I cannot breathe correctly with the new inhalers. They do not stop an asthma attack and you need to use many more puffs then with the old inhalers. Please bring back the old inhalers. The new types are useless and I want to be able to breathe clearly again. I have been an asthmatic my entire life. My experience, so far, is that the HFA inhalers are not nearly as effective for me as the old CFC inhaler that I once used. The "IDIOT"!!!! at the FDA that says for people with breathing problems to "take a deep breath when using the new inhalers", doesn't have the intelligence to realize that WE CAN"T TAKE A DEEP BREATH when we have to use the rescue inhaler. That's why we need them....because we can't get a deep breath!!!! People....our Government cares more about kissing up to other countries that it cares about it's own people!! I too do not get the same effect with the new inhaler's. I use the new one more than I did before...and it "is" less effective. The fact that the expense is a factor also makes it a two fold problem...more money...less efective. I bsolutley The new inhalers are less effective, and it seems that when I'm at a loss for air, it takes more time to become effective. As a nurse,a mother of an adult asthmatic, and an environmentalist, I am angered by the disregard for health. This would not have happened if it had been--hamburgers, viagra or oh alcohol or tobacco--two big money makers!! HFA inhalers do not work as well as the old ones do. They also cost 3 times as much as they did. I guess that was the reason to switch. My pharmacist told me that he's had a lot of complaints about them not working. Please help all of us who are suffering and unable to breath due to the terrible decision to take away our life saving medicine. J. Bailey, CA 3/4/2010 PLEASE give us our right to be able to breath again. Imagine having a 500 lb person sitting on your chest, that is how we feel when we have an attack. The inhaler you have left us with is NOT working. WE have the RIGHT to live and breath!!!!! Kimberlee Bogs, IA 3/9/2010 I feel like my life is in jeopardy. I can barely walk without huffing and puffing. The slightest activity causes me to gasp for air. HELP!! Barkat Curtin-Pollock, NY 3/11/2010 Non-CFC inhalers do not work fast enough. It is as simple as that. The ban on these inhalers might end up being a death-sentence for some of us. Asthma is horrible enough to live with, without constantly fearing that the medicine won't work in time. Rachel Takats, TX 3/12/2010 As with most others, the HFA albuterol inhalers don't work for me, and I'm just now running out of my stockpiled collection of the now-banned CFC ones. I use my nebulizer machine at home vs. the last CFC inhaler to save what I have left for when I'm on the go, and now must buy and deal with the inconvenience of a portable nebulizer. One would think that the ADA and other discrimilation-watch groups would jump at this (perhaps inadvertent at first ... to be fair) attempt to subvert living, not-easily-breathing, patients to the dollar desires of the drug companies. I'm willing to pay more (as is the case for HFAs anyway) for CFCs, with the excess split between the drug company (if they really need it to make a "reasonable" profit) and the EPA and other environmental groups so that they (the latter) can address the real greenhouse gas culprits. Deborah Foster, VA 3/13/2010 We need our medicine and we don't need the new horrible inhalers that do us no good!!! Give us back our CFCs and Give us back our Medicine!!!!!!! Kathy Leeson, TX 3/14/2010 Rather than use products such as Symbocort or Advair, I would rather use Albuterol because at least you can get relief. The other medicines don't work. For that matter since the government banned the old Albuterol even the new one doesn't work as well. I had to switch to the new HFA inhalers and also have experienced having to use more puffs to relieve my symptoms which places me over the prescribed amount per month resulting in not having enough at the end of the month and my doctor can only prescribe 2 puffs 4 times per day. I need help and a loop hole so that I do not die someday as a result of not having a inhaler. Trent Kiziminski, 3/19/2010 I am very much in favor of rational, evidence-based measures to save & protect our environment. However, in this case, I feel that political & profit-making motives drove the decision to ban CFC inhalers, in the absence of sound scientific evidence. The effects of this decision have been profound - for those of us unable to tolerate the side effects of the other The new inhalers are worthless. This is what you get when you have government running healthcare.Bureaucrats who have no clue about medicine making decisions that affect patients lives. Like CFC's from these inhalers are destroying the ozone layer? Are you kidding me? This is pumped directly into our lungs. The CFC-free units are totally worthless. The new ethanol inhalers cause severe reactions. A rescue inhalers is supposed to help you breath, instead, my experience has been that thanks to the propellant, which has a terrible scent and taste, I begin coughing worse than before I used the inhaler and thereby get no relief from my symptoms. I've had to switch to a nebulizer (not exactly convenient as a rescue technique considering you have to plug the unit into a wall outlet and it doesn't really fit in a Please give us drugs that work for asthma for all patients. People with asthma are sufferring greatly. Help the people. I love our plant and want to keep it clean but I also think people with diseases should be helped first. and until we have I've had asthma my entire life (24 years), but that has almost come to an an end several times since the inhaler change. I don't care what anyone says, Proair inhalers are NOT as effective as my old albuterol inhaler. Before this huge changeover, I hadn't been hospitalized since I was around 10 years old. Since 2008, I've been hospitalized 3 times due to severe asthma attacks, and my medicine failing to work. While I'm not saying that the new inhalers don't work at all, I am saying they are not nearly as effective. You're talking about people's lives here-- if you want to ban something to save our ozone, ban sportscars, SUVs,gas powered vehicles all together, or something else that actually does a great deal of damage. Casey Fortner, GA, 3/31/2010 I am concerned with the envirnment, and more concerned about being able to breathe! I decided not to accept the fact that the only rescue inhaler that has ever worked well for me has been discontinued and decided to research what is being done about this. I am thrilled to see that others have the same concens and are banding together to appeal this decision! Patricia O'Connell, MA, 3/31/2010 Status asthmaticus is also stress related...You feel difficulty in breathing and you reach for your First Serevent, then Azmacort have been taken off the market and replaced with powder inhalers. The CFC inhalers kept my asthma under control for years, and now I'm at a loss because the powder replacement inhalers do not work. Now I have trouble climbing a short flight of stairs (I live in a 3-floor condo) and wake up early every morning with plugged airways. It is absolutely criminal that large companies are big polluters, but these little life-saving devices have been withdrawn from those of us who desperately need them. Katherine Carlson, GA, 4/3/2010 "I am worried these new inhalers HFA) are not going to work well enough or as well as the old ones (CFC) It is scary when you can't get enough air!!" Jean Sotela, CA, 5/6/2011 "Are you FDA people "CRAZY"? I would like to ask you a question.Have you ever sat in a emergency room, watched an ambulance arrive, with a young man on a stretcher, dying, because, he could not get any air into lungs, EMT yelling they were loosing him, the young man couldn't breathe without his INHALER!!!!????" Charolette Collins, OH, 5/15/2011 "I didn't really know the difference between ProAir or CFC until they switched me.. Now im getting more asthma attacks alot more frequently then I used to. I'm a veteran who, while serving, was completely fine with asthma and didn't know why my asthma was getting worse if nothing has changed? Until I did research and realized that not only did my asthma get worse but so did everyone elses once the change was made. Harmful for the environment??? Decisions made by individuals that the end result doesnt effect them, if they had adthma I'm sure they wouldn't have made the change once it effected them..." "No one is more concerned with air quality than an asthma sufferer. But we need our inhalers to work. Since the change I've had to increasingly use prednisone to stay breathing as my inhaler doesn't give relief. I don't think I should have to sacrifice my adrenal glands to keep my lungs functional." Andrea Lawrence, MN, 5/16/2011 "The HFA inhalers are 50% less effective than the CFC. And they cost almost twice as much. Because now there are no generics. Looks like a money grab to me!!" Donald White, CA, 5/18/2011 "Azmacort is the only medication that has helped my asthma and COPD and I have never had any appreciable side effects. My doctor has ordered several other medications to treat my breathing problems and none have been effective. Because they are of little or no help, I have to use my rescue inhaler frequently. When using Azmacort, I seldom had to use albuterol inhaler. I NEED AZMACORT." Suzanne Downing, MS, 6/4/2011 "The HFA inhalers don't work. I'm tired of being frightened when my "rescue" inhaler cannot be depended on. HELP! The amount of CFC used in rescue inhalers are minimal and not worth the chance of loss of life NOW!" "Because of the current state of affairs regarding healthcare in our "free" country, I am unable to afford frequent visits to healthcare professionals, and am certainly incapable of paying the outrageous costs of prescription medications. I am 62, and have been using Primatene Mist regularly for 35-plus years and have NEVER suffered any ill effects. The argument that it contributes to the destruction of the ozone layer is absolutely ludicrous, when one considers the "cosmetic" articles still propelled by destructive gasses that remain readily available. This looks more like a fascist attempt to drive up costs for those who cannot afford them. Please DO NOT pull a vital product from the market upon which many are dependent for survival. To eliminate this effective and safe over-the-counter medication from the open market is tantamount to a resurgence of Adolph Hitler's programs whereby the"unwanted" or "less productive" members of a society were simply put to death under the guise of governmental "care." Has our society really "I have used primatene mist for 50 years and have found it to be by far the most effective product for my asthma. To ban this product from the market with no other similar OTC product available is nothing short of a crime!" "This Primatene Mist is the only asthma treatment that works for me please do not take it off the market it is the only one that works and that I can afford.Just thinking about not being able to get it any more scares me alot." "PLEASE bring these types of rescue inhalers back! It seems obvious to me that those without respiratory issues are the ones who took MY life-saving CFC inhaler away from me. If I die because the new types do not work, it is on your heads." "My doctor recommended a CFC inhaler (Primatene Mist) as a way of helping with COPD while at the same time helping me with medical costs. We have private insurance. But when you add up all the co-pays and deductibles of having to go to my doctor for an Rx, OTC medications (when available) are key to stretching every last penny from my husband's paychecks. Please keep Primatene Mist and other (CFC inhalers) in it's current form available OTC." "HFA inhalers are unreliable and therefore unsuitable for use." Mark Rossman, MI 9/1/2011 "As an asthmatic for 50 years, I am outraged that the U.S. Government is banning such a wonderful product that has probably saved many lives! And for what? because these small inhalers contain a small amount of CFCs? I mean come on! We have factories & businesses that put more garbage into the air that are a LOT worse & virtually NOTHING is being done about this!!! The fact is that this is an affordable solution for asthmatics who have no or very little health insurance! Another fact is that it can be obtained in an emergency when one has forgotten their prescription or, is away from home & has run out! Also ... For very many asthmatics, it is more effective & provides much quicker relief than Albuterol Sulfate! I know that Primatene Mist works better for me in most cases! This product has been available for over 40 years & has proven to be very effective! So... Why mess with it now? Don't you Politicians have bigger & better things to do with your time? Why not go after much larger offenders that pollute our air with much more serious amounts of contaminants that are bad for the air! This is just one little tiny inhaler that SAVES lives! Please reconsider the ban on Primatenen Mist! WE NEED IT!!!!" Michael Glende, NJ, 9/4/2011 "I hate using the inhalers with steroids that doctors prescribe and like being able to buy this as I live with 2 people who smoke and need this several times a week. I can use the pills, but sometimes that isn't always convenient if an attack comes on suddenly. It's not a fun feeling when your lungs start closing up and your chest hurts. Luckily I have only had a few serious attacks when I couldn't find my inhaler, but luckily I was at work and able to buy a new one OTC." "Government lobbying for the switch to HFA inhalers was funded almost entirely by interests from pharmaceutical companies - it's true!!" Adrian Van Meter, WA 9/17/2011 "This medicine has saved my ass too many times when my prescription "rescue" inhaler wouldn't ease the pressure on my lungs. I could walk through a store gasping for air and one puff from a primatene would ease my breathing in minutes, much less time than it takes for even the breathing treatments at the er. Please Please Please!!!!!! Dont allow this product to be removed from production." Patricia Knight, PA 9/21/2011 "Please return back to CFC inhalers. Our lives are dependant on inhalers and the new ones DO NOT WORK LIKE THEY SHOULD. What little CFC comes out of inhalers is microscopic compared to our trucking industry daily belching of pollutants that most probably contribute the cause of the increase in Asthma through out the US. Please restore our source for effective medication and quit playing PC with medications that save our lives!" Farrow Hitt, CO, 9/22/2011 "I don't need a prescription, I only need an inhaler during unusually strenuous activity (like a pick-up game of soccer once or twice a year) or if exposed to an excess of dust (changing a vacuum bag for example). Inhalers expire too quickly to justify the cost of doctor's visits and a prescription for such infrequent use, yet when you can't breathe, you NEED help! Primatine Mist NEEDS to be available at places like CVS for sudden problem situations. Something like BREATHING shouldn't require a prescription!" Jeff Wheeler, VA, 9/22/2011 "I have had asthma since birth, and have used cfc inhaler all my life...the new inhalers hardly work at all, and make me cough excessively. Please bring them back!" Troy Bartholomew, CA 9/23/2011 "My boyfriend does not have medical coverage, so he DEPENDS on the Primatene becasue he will, quite literally, not be able to live without it." Melissa Bradley, TN 9/23/2011 "The new inhalers do not provide the immediate relief as the previous ones and I have to use twice as much. Please go back to the old inhalers!" Cristino Larios, TX, 9/23/2011 "The propellent in the asthma inhalers does NOT work! My asthma is NOT relieved unless I take 2-3 puffs at a time, and it's not relieved quickly. I can't believe we don't have some Congressmen who use rescue inhalers, who can get our chloroflurocarbon propellent back. PLEASE!! We are dependent on the efficacy of this medication." "These HFA inhalers are inferior to the CFC inhalers. I don't feel immediate relief from the HFA inhalers the way I did with the CFC inhalers." Lori Grayson, RI, 9/24/2011 "I too am livid, the new inhalers are awful, I used to use 1 a month now I use 4, and still wheeze half the time, and I find myself unable to afford them now. I often go without other meds I should be taking to afford to breathe. I don't see how congress can feel good knowing what they have put us through, I think every asthmatic should vote against their reps if they voted in favor of this change." Anneliese Contreras, TX, 9/24/2011 "Who will be responsible for the deaths of those who can not immediately access an OTC rescue inhaler? Who in the EPA or FDA is willing to take the responsibility? Why are we concerned with projected deaths versus real time suffocation? I don't expect an answer but the EPA and FDA should expect a reaction." William Farley, TN, 9/25/2011 "If we can reformulate other products to be safe for the environment, there should be no reason why an over-the-counter drug (that millions of people depend on)cannot be reformulated to be available OTC for the good of the overall public health." Jocelyn Titus, NJ, 9/25/2011 "Life long Asthma sufferer. Over the counter dependent inhaler user due to the costly medical care and prescriptions." "Ever since being forced to use the prescribed HFA inhaler, my dose frequency have increased along with side effects." "I NEED asthma inhalers everyday--"Ann Ashton, OR 9/26/2011 "I have no health insurance and this ban will affect me greatly. Primatine Mist has helped be battle my asthma attacks." "I wrote an editorial regarding this ban that I have been posting on every web site and forum that I can find. I have sent the same editorial to several local newspapers as well as to the Senate, Congress, Governor and the FDA as well as the makers of Primatene Mist. I posted this editorial to the Guestbook of this web site as well as on my own web site. Anyone who would like a copy can email me." Derek Tombrello, AL 9/26/2011 "I have used the HFA inhalers for over a year now, and they do NOT relieve asthma symptoms quickly. I have had to use the inhaler more as a result of the ineffective medication combined with the ineffective delivery of it." "I have used primatene for years can't afford the doctors inhalers" Gary Harris OH, 10/7/2011 "I'm glad to see the campaign moving forward and Sen. DeMint attempting to halt the ban. I personally prefer getting Primatene Mist OTC because I don't want to have to keep getting a prescription for the rest of my life. While I've never had any problems with HFAs like Pro-Air, it's just much easier. Also the Primatene pills don't work as well so I'm glad to see this product protected. I need it, as many other millions do."Jordan Oschin, CA 10/18/2011 "Please bring back the old inhalers! The new ones don't work!" Sean Ferguson, CA 10/22/2011 "Bring back the damn CFC inhalers. There's no reason we should be sacrificing our health at the altar of Al Gore's religion. Not only do the new inhalers not work, they cost a $40 co-pay compared to $3 for the CFC inhalers." "The CFC inhalers work better and are cheaper. OTC Primatene does a better job on my chronic asthma than the newer albuterol inhalers. My best combination is Flovent & Primatene." Marcus Kostolich, NM 11/8/2011 "The FDA should have a new green otc inhaler put out before they ban the only otc rescue inhaler on the market." "Tilade worked very well for me, so that I did not need to use a steroid inhaler. It is outrageous that the government cares so much about the ozone layer that it is willing to push people into using steroid medications, which have numerous side effects. Standard medical practice has been to avoid steroid use unless absolutely necessary. Now I have a doctor telling me to use steroid medications or a rescue inhaler, which we were told only a few years ago to use only sparingly. This is not medicine; it's environmental fanaticism, and it's bad for humans." "Primatene Mist is the only inhaler that saves me when the other ones no longer have any effect when taking them. I have tried dozens of kinds and eventually they stop reliving asthma." "Price went way up and effectiveness went way down. This sure looks like a situation where drug industry lobbiests have likely, quietly murdered hundreds of people of several years by pushing this legislation and out elected officials simply caved to them out of ignorance."Robert Mulvey, IN 11/28/2011 "I have severe asthma and it is a blemish on our health system that we outlawed CFC inhalers. I have had to go without inhalers at times (instead solely using a nebulizer), which has caused me to be unable to leave my nebulizer. I am a very active individual, but my freedom is dependent on control over my asthma symptoms and not having access to CFC inhalers severely restricts my quality of life." "The Primatine Mist inhaler has saved my life and the lives of many others. It's cheap and works very well. This ban on CFC inhalers will hurt the econemy more than help it due to the amount of people that depend on the CFC type inhalers. In addition not everyone can or will pay for those crappy inhalers because they require a prescription and are expensive. The people that can't aford them will be in trouble, my family is just making ends meet in the bills, me and my father depend on Primatine Mist and from what I know, my father doesn't have Medical coverage..."
"I am desperate. I have had asthma all my life and thanks to this stupid ban, I no longer have a rescue inhaler. I am allergic to the new HFA propellant and cannot use it; it makes my asthma attack worse! The government has left me with no option but to suffocate to death. I think the US government should have to take the same oath as doctors: DO NO HARM!!!" Suzanne Gordon, PA October 10, 2009
"This is a really important issue. I've already talked to my doctor about this twice and asked him if they're trying to kill me. Obviously, he said that there's nothing he can do about it. Something needs to be done to save people's lives here." Thomas DeSisto, VT October 10, 2009
"These new inhalers that are being prescribed DO NOT WORK. I have been an asthmatic my entire life and my inhaler has always been my saving grace. The inhaler that I was prescribed at the beginning of 2009 was so different than anything I was used to. It didn't relieve my symptoms at all, it was much smaller, and much more expensive. Clearly the people who banned the CFC inhalers have not had to live with this disease and have not had to rely on an inhaler to live a normal life. After years of successfully living with a disease, and not succumbing to it's symptoms, it's very disheartening that the goverment is telling me I have to suffer now. LEGALIZE CFC INHALERS SO THAT WE CAN BREATHE AGAIN!!!!" Kimberly Pielech, MA October 10, 2009
"I have Asthma, and have had it ever since I was 19 yrs. old.I have COPD, Bad Lungs, had polio when I was younger. My doctor told me, my Lungs were in very bad shape. I DEPEND ON MY INHALERS VERY MUCH, AND WISH WITH ALL MY HEART WE COULD GO BACK TO USING THE "OLD INHALERS" THE ONLY ONE THAT WORKED VERY WELL WITH ME WAS THE ALBUTEROL. THAT PRO AIR DOESN'T EVEN HELP ME ONE BIT, I AM WAISTING MY MONEY BUYING IT!
"PLEASE PLEASE RECONSIDER THIS LAW. THIS IS A NECESSITY NOT A DANGER TO POLLUTANT. THIS IS A MEDICAL ISSUE, WHICH WE AS ASTHMATICS AND OTHER LUNG DISEASE RELY ON TO LIVE!" Joycee Barrett, NC, October 8, 2009
"The new inhalers are 10 times the price, and yet completly worthless. I have not purchased one in months."
Jordan Rogers, WI October 7, 2009
"I am a lifelong asthmatic who is furious that not only can I no longer get my inhaler that was proven to work and am now stuck with what is at best a mediocre replacement, but that these new HFA inhalers, despite delivering the same active drug, have been "rebranded" and now appear on the "Brand Name" drug pricing schedule. Tell the drug companies to stop robbing us blind." Christopher Pando, NV October 7, 2009
"Even after rinsing my mouth and gargling with warm water I always end up with a very sore throat."
Alvin Pierce, AK October 7, 2009
"I have used inhalers for 30 years and these new ones are junk it takes twice the puffs to work and who can clean their inhaler after every use when I am backpacking or on a jobsite with no water (every week for me)."
Matt Brennan, NC October 6, 2009
"I am a 36 year old asthmatic who has been on life support 4 times in my lifetime. I agree that these new inhalers are not as effective at supressing an attack. It is my hope that this is reversed as I have no interest in life support for the 5th time." Mark Palter, CA #4615
"Contrary to what "they" say, these new inhalers DO NOT WORK as well as the older type. Plus they taste strange & cost 6 times more than the regular Albuterol inhaler-I have no health insurance & this has become increasingly difficult to find the
money to pay for this inferior product. Talk about adding insult to injury! The government needs to go after the big
polluters, not us folk who need assistance just to breathe!!" Julie Salk, IL October 5, 2009
"Wow! I thought I was the only one that thought this new inhaler didn't work well. It also clogs all the time too! I hate
this new one!!!" Kelly West, WA October 5, 2009
"The CFC inhaler worked better for me where the HFA inhaler does not work as well. I do use controller meds for my asthma but still need a nebulizer and still use my inhaler as needed. That crap about asthma being out of control if you use albuterol more than twice a week is just that, crap. It's to get more money out of us for more expensive medicine. The albuterol does me more good than the expensive crap." Cynthia Canter, TN October 5, 2009
"I have asthma for 30 years and for the past 11 months I have told my Dr. that the new inhalers are not working as well. They keep telling me that the medication is the same but now if I have an asthma attack it is taking 3 to 4 puffs verses 1 to 2. I glad to hear I'm not the only person having these problems." Bambi Coyle, PA October 5, 2009
"Agree that CFC-free inhalers aren't as effective. Please continue effort to bring back old medication. This is not fair, we need "emergency" medicine. If you don't want us to go to the emergency room with every attack, or overdose because we
don't believe our medicine is working, please give us back the medicine that saves our lives."
Sharon Bartman, PA October 5, 2009
"Since using the new inhalers, I have found myself having to use them very often. They never seem to relieve the wheezing I have. I am more tired. My upper chest is sore a lot from breathing so heavily, and I have not had too many good nights sleep." Chris Duffy, CT October 4, 2009
"The new generation of inhalers is useless." Kathi Kaufmann, PA #4611
"I agree with this petition and my health is negatively affected by the use of HFA albuterol inhalers like Proventil I use."
Robert Wurzburg, NY October 3, 2009
"I have used "rescue inhalers"(cfc) to avoid asthma attacks for many years, and they worked. The new hfa inhalers do not work for me,and there is no rescue from an asthma episode." Carol Gatewood, TX October 2, 2009
"I hope this petition gets the recognition it deserves, and that a resolution is passed. The FDA is insane if they think that 40 million americans puffing on their CFC inhalers to control their asthma even minutely pollutes the air or contributes to global warming. THEY CAN"T PROVE IT!!! All of the rhetoric that goes on "ad nauseum" about global warming probably causes much more damage to the atmosphere with the expelling of so much carbon dioxide as they talk endlessly and never tackle the REAL problems." Grant Garber, CA October 1, 2009
"These new inhalers cause swelling and make my asthma worse because of the ethanol propellant."
Linda Wade, MD October 1, 2009
"I thought it was just me when I was not getting the relief i with the new inhalers that I used to get with my old inhalers...please bring back the old ones." Jeff Cormany, IL September 29, 2009
"HFA inhalers do not work as well and I am very concerned about the potential health side effects."
Mark Magana, NM September 28, 2009
"These new inhalers don't work. I think they just want you to use the steroid inhalers along with these inhalers. So pharmaceutical companies can make more money. You have to overdose on your rescue inhaler to get very little relief. I can use one in three days if I am having a hard time. Then I have to have my doctor prescribe prednisone."
Valerie Riley, IL September 28, 2009
"Have chronic acute asthma. CFC inhalers (Alupent) have saved my life on several occasions. HFA inhalers are not effective. Feel compelled to take an EpiPen with me wherever I go." Thomas Malone, TX September 28, 2009
"have asthma and it has gotten worse since the government took away my CFC inhaler. The new inhalers not only DON'T work on my asthma, but the side effects have created additional health problems. The ethanol in the new inhalers makes me sick and my asthma is worse. The newer powder-type inhalers caused me to develop pneumonia and then pneumonitis 3 months later, in addition to worsening asthmatic symptoms. The bottom line is that my asthma was well-controlled using the CFC inhaler and is not using the new HFA inhalers or other treatments. I am fearful that I will die because I am not able to breath well. The quality of my life has deteriorated significantly. I am in shock that my country, the United States of America, has taken away life-saving medication. How many must die before something is done to bring the CFC inhalers back?" Liz Laguna, CA September 28, 2009
"What can I say except that people are suffering, some are dying and no one seems to care."
Morgan Sutton, MT September 28, 2009
"Please reinstate the regular CFC inhalers. I found these inhalers to be much more effective. I can't believe that the
minimal use of CFC asthma inhalers is the primary reason for the depletion in the ozone layer. The cost of my medication for the NEW and approved inhalers has tripled. This really takes advantage of asthma/allergy sufferers who have no recourse but to pay so that they can live. Please reconsider your stand on this issue."
Christine Klassek, IN September 28, 2009
"I have mild asthma that has been controlled by an inhaler for 15 years.Ever since the switch over on Jan. 1st I can no
longer control it with just my inhaler when my breathing gets bad. I now have to take medication daily. The new inhaler does not work for me I have been telling others this since the switch and I am relieved to see there are so many others that have this same issue. We deserve to breath, please bring back CFC inhalers."
Linda Boyd, IL September 28, 2009
"I finally have found a medicine (Intal inhaler) that works for my asthma without the side effects I get from systemic drugs
and steroid inhalers and now it is being taken off the market. PLEASE rethink this. I know I am not the only one who suffers
from asthma who is unable to take the systemic/steroidal compounds, which are now the only things left on the market." Ann Bledsoe, NY September 28, 2009
"I fully support the effort to bring back the old CFC inhalers. I have found that the new inhaler is grossly ineffective. My asthma is much worse now and it is SCARY." Felicia Torres, CA #4605
"This ban is causing suffering and is killing people. This is terrifying and deplorable. The lack of sympathy from our government is criminal." Morgan Sutton, MT #4603
"I too get very poor help from the new inhaler. My opinion, is they are not even one third as effective. HELP, please allow the old type albuteral inhaler." C Martin Zamecnik, IL #4593"It was not broke so why did you have to think you needed to fix it? I would like to breath, let us have our medications back!!!!!" Karel Hale, TX, September 27, 2009
"I thought I was the only one complaining. All the doctors think I am crazy." Linda Nicholus, IL September 27, 2009
"I WONDER IF ANY OF THE POLITICIANS THAT THOUGHT THIS UP HAVE ANY RESPITORY PROBLEMS. EVIDENTLY NOT BECAUSE IF THEY DID THEY WOULD NEVER AGREE TO ANYTHING AS "ASSININE" AS TAKING AWAY THE ONE SURE THING THAT BRINGS RELIEF WHEN IT IS DESPERATELY NEEDED. WHEN YOU CAN'T BREATHE - NOTHING ELSE MATTERS!"
Joyce Le Starge, IL September 27, 2009
"I am a lifelong asthma sufferer, now at the age of 23 my asthma is worse than it's ever been and my heart palpitations from the side effects of my HFA Albuterol Inhaler are getting worse day by day. Ever since they (CFC inhalers) have been banned, my medical health has declined and I can even see this in my family members and friends who suffer from asthma too, I am not the only one. I have done my research and have found the information in this petition to be very blunt and honest. Trust me, I am someone who is all for a greener movement and I'm a Democrat, so, I applauded Al Gore's documentary when it came out but this is too much. Even for this staunch Democrat who has voted in every single election she could since her 18th birthday, this is just too much. I inhale the medication and I am smart enough to know that it is valuable, life saving stuff.
"Why should asthma patients suffer when there's plenty of Government run programs that harm the environment and put out more CFC's than a simple inhaler? I voted for Barack Obama and still continue to support him and I agree whole heartedly on the issue of Health Care Reform, I can only hope and pray that somehow this will reach President Obama and implore him to work to bring better medicine back to asthma sufferers all across the nation. More children are being diagnosed with asthma every year; I have been living with it since I was a very small child myself. This has got to change, if it doesn't I am not sure how much longer some of us will live, as some side effects of HFA inhalers have proved to be fatal. More people die from asthma complications each year, we can fix that. I pray that I will see it fixed in my lifetime; meanwhile, I am going to continue my search for another type of asthma medicine, one that I can take without worrying about whether or not I'll die from it. I have no desire to die before I have been able to achieve my full potential in life and make a difference in this world. I am sure no one else who suffers from asthma wants that to be their fate either." Caroline Faulk, NC September 21, 2009
"I would like to know what country still allows the CFC inhalers to be purchased please. My life has become so limited since using these HFA inhalers. Yes, I've tried most of them w/no improvement to my asthma condition. In fact, my health has deteriorated since being on them. I would gladly purchase the CFC inhaler from another country if available."
Barbara Rohach, CO September 21, 2009
"My husband and children all have asthma. I can't worry all day long that one of the new eco friendly inhailors is going to clog up in the time of need. It's a matter of life and death!!! You are risking lives, my husbands life, my children's lives!!! YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED!" Tamara Noble Farris September 19, 2009
"The new HFA inhaler is drastically less effective, and more costly. It also clogs, and becomes unusable, a problem that the previous version of the inhalers did not have. Please look for other ways to reduce cfc emissions that do not jeapordize public health." William Sattler, WI #4592
"I have not been able to fully breathe in the 17 months I have been forced to use the new inhalers. My albuterol inhaler worked every time for me and I felt better within 1 minute. I would use the inhaler and be fine for quite some time. I am now using my rescue inhaler many times a day, without relied. This is not an issue of price but I refilled my Albuterol inhaler every 10-12 weeks. I now refill my prescription every 3 weeks.
"Please bring the cfc inhalers back. If you or a loved one could not fully breathe, day after day, you would understand exactly what we are going through." Jennifer Brown, NC September 17, 2009
"Intal is the first time I could tell that an inhaler made in any difference in my asthma. Albuterol does nothing for me. Please allow the CFC for inhalers. Other delivery systems do not work as well and the manufacturer for Intal has been unable to formulate it to work with any other propellant." Sandra Haughey, AZ September 17, 2009
"I thought it was just me, but this new Pro air just been a headache its almost useless, I was born with asthma and when I started using albuterol, I would only need 1 puff, it work everytime quik. but now Im up at 5:30 in the morning using my nebulizer because 6 puffs of my Pro Air DOES NOT WORK, and my nightly attacks & daily attacks have gotton worse plllllease help, feeling helpless Why take my breath away and charge me Triple, my pro air costs $42.00 helllllllp us Also now Im using 2~3 inhalers a month before 1 albuterol would last me 1.5~2 months. help" Phillip Cato, OR #4591
"I applaud your efforts to get our inhalers back. I must go through extreme efforts to regulate my breathing and fight my asthma attacks now. These new inahlers do NOT work. I must take up to eight puffs just to marginally get my attacks under control. In addition to that, I have to use other unsafe means to prevent attacks such as using Primatene tablets, which raise my heart rate. My doctor warned me against using them since I am also on a inhaled steroid.. but I really have no choice. My attacks are frightening and they happen more frequently now."
Ginger Marshal, NV September 17, 2009
"I have a cousin with severe asthma and I have a niece & nephew with Cystic Fibrosis. All rely heavily on their inhalers to help them breathe, but we have discovered that these new inhalers are not working. Instead of using their inhalers they are having to go to the hospital to get breathing treatments or in the case of my niece & nephew they can get them at home since they have to have a machine. If something were to happen while my niece & nephew were in school and their inhaler didn't work then they'd have to call and ambulance and take them to a hospital so they could get a breathing treatment, but this shouldn't be the case. My family (and hundreds of thousands other people) should be able to get the relief they need from their inhalers. People are dying because they can't get help fast enough and this is simple unacceptable in this day & age. Please do whatever is necessary to make sure that CFC inhalers are once again given to patients who need them. This is a life saving matter and needs to be addressed immediately. Thank you." Renee Visage IL, September 16, 2009
"Refusing to give medical patients the life saving treatment that they need to stay ALIVE by banning CFC inhalers is INHUMAN punishment for those with a physical disability. The amount of CFCs in the little tiny inhaler is so small but necessary to these people that those who have banned them should be refused AIR so they can see how it feels!"
Deborah Tobias CT, September 16, 2009
"I am 47 years old and have lived with asthma my entire life. My mother too is asthmatic. The new inhalers are not nearly as effective and it concerns me greatly at the times when I am having respiratory trouble. While I am all for green and saving the ozone, I believe the focus on those efforts can exclude items required as medical necessity. Unless you have breathing problems, you cannot fully understand the level of comfort those inhalers can restore. I have not felt the same since they changed them. I questioned it, and was able to pay $2-3 more and get the other inhaler for a while. I discussed with my doctor at my last refill, and he said he would write the script to continue that way but Walgreens said NO at point of refill! Pretty sad times we are in." Tammy Coffman, TN #4588
"I was taking the same meds (inhaler) since 1958, worked self sufficient until...my stock pile of inhalers ran out. on the new one's I am now on disability and not able to work or live normal, please bring back my ability to breath."
Sheila Bosch, CA September 14, 2009
"New HFA inhalers are making my asthma worst. Have had three hospital visits since getting theses new piece of garbage." Carlos Duenas, CA September 14, 2009
"This medication barely works for me in a mild asthma attack. I am afraid of having a more severe attack and ending up in the hospital or worse." Christina, CA #4585
"I have had asthma since i was two years old. when i was old enough, around four or five, i started using the warrick cfc albuterol inhalers. they worked so well for me that most of the time i only had to take one puff and my asthma symptoms were gone. since ive been using the new proair cfc free inhalers, ive been having to take up to four puffs per one attack just to get the smallest amount of relief. now, because of my shitty insurance, i cant even afford the new inhalers and have resorted to using an otc epinephrine inhaler (which is about as worthless as the new inhalers).
"It's obvious that the people that allowed this to happen dont have asthma. id like to see them experience the sheer terror that comes when someone is having a serious asthma attack and cant get relief. the fear in not knowing whether or not this attack could be the last.
"Or look at it from the standpoint of a parent of an asthmatic child. imagine, its 3 am, your child comes stumbling into your bedroom, gasping for air. what can you do? the inhaler you have doesnt work, it will cost you hundreds of dollars to go to the hospital again. so, out of desperation, you try to calm her down and ride it out as best you could. i cannot tell you how many times i was that child. i cant even begin to explain the amount of guilt i have felt from putting my poor mother through such episodes time and again.
"It is sick and wrong to take away such an important device from people that depend on it just to survive. if the people that did this (and have the power to undo it) have any conscious at all, they would repeal it and give us our inhalers back!" Rachel Lepard, MI September 14, 2009
"I have dealt with asthma since early childhood, which required injections and hospital visits for several years. After being prescribed a CFC inhaler I was finally free to live a normal life for the first time. For nearly 20 years I have used a CFC inhaler with no negative side effects. Then I was forced to start using an HFA inhaler and my asthma immediately worsened. What previously required one inhalation of a CFC inhaler, now requires 3 or 4 inhalations of an HFA inhaler as well as repeat doses after an hour or less. After being forced to switch to the HFA inhaler, I began having to use the inhaler several times a day, when I previously could often go a few days without using an inhaler at all. I also began getting heart palpitations, headaches, shakiness, constant horrid taste in my mouth, insomnia and sores around my mouth (despite constant cleaning of the inhaler.
"After stopping the HFA use twice, the sores disappeared within immediately both times). Because my asthma worsened after the forced switch to an HFA inhaler, I was prescribed other medications in an effort to control the asthma (such as Advair, Singulair and others) which caused several other negative side affects that far outweighed the minimal improvements they made.
"The HFA inhalers clog constantly and has much fewer inhalations then stated; "200 hundred metered inhalations" is more like 110, I counted the inhalations of more than one HFA inhaler, not one came close to 200. The other medications I was prescribed in an effort to relieve my asthma because of the HFA inhalers inefficiency also cost a lot, money I would not have had to spend if I could have continued using the CFC inhaler I had been using. I have since had to start using Primatene Mist, which is less effective then the CFC inhalers but provides better results with fewer side effects then the HFA inhalers (and is less expensive). It is terrifying and appalling that the government would so callously disregard the health and safety of so many, just to appease environmentalists. I'm all for improving the environment, but the absurdity that a life saving medication would be banned in the name of environmental protection...how much damage do inhalers really cause while there are a myriad of severe legitimate environmental issues left unchecked. I cannot even find adequate words to express my disgust with the FDA." Annette Benold, TX September 14, 2009
"Please do not take away an effective medicine from those who fear where their next breath is coming from."
Mary Wahr, MI #4571
"The inhaler does not operate as quickly, is more prone to failure, and the medicine is simple not as effective as the CFC MDIs. Please stop being political and help people who have trouble breathing!" Luke C. Gabello, NY #4582
"I was recently prescribed the ProAir HFA inhaler in lieu of the old Armstrong Albuterol inhaler. My asthma was very well controlled and only acts up during times of the year where I have seasonal allergies. Now when I have even a mild attack, this new medication does not feel like it is working. Instead of feeling almost instantly better, I still feel short of breath after the recommended dosage, and it feels like the medication is not getting deep enough into my lungs to provide relief.
"I am now afraid of when a more severe attack happens, because this new medication is not fast acting enough to stop it! I am afraid to do physical activity such as going on hikes because I am afraid I will not be close enough to a hospital if I were to have an attack." Christina Lopriore, CA September 14, 2009

"The new inhalers do not work. I've been using inhalers for years and since they switched I have been going through more inhalers. I've been told by the doctor and the pharmacy I am using to much. I've tried to tell them the ProAir is not working. They just keep telling me I'm using it wrong. Yet I never had problems with the CFC Inhalers."
Corina Butenhoff, MN September 11, 2009

Carolyn Sylvestre, IL September 11, 2009
"I hate the new inhalers!! I clean mine all the time and half the time nothing comes out."
Lisa Mullenberg, MN September 10, 2009
"These HFA inhalers are USELESS. I stocked up on the CFC inhalers as long as they were available, and my supply ran out on 9/7/09. Using this HFA inhaler gives NO RELIEF. The only way I am able to breathe is to take a breathing treatment with my nebulizer. This is a dangerous situation, because people don't always have a nebulizer available."
Lynn Barrett, MS September 10, 2009
"NASA just tested (09/10/2009) a new booster engine for their Ares Moon Rocket. It is 3.6 million pounds of thrust and 22 million horsepower. This is not helping to destroy our ozone? Yet the small amount of CFC propellant in an asthma spray is? My asthma spray barely works. How sad that they would put human lives at risk due to them thinking that spraying the CFC into your throat is helping to destroy the ozone layer." Karen Holowka, IL September 10, 2009
"I am a 45 year old male with asthma. For 10 years I was able to control my condition with the old CFC inhalers. Since using the new HFA inhalers I have not been able to find any relief. They simply do not work. Even worse, since switiching to the HFA inhalers, the results on my breathing tests have shown a decline and I now have to take a more dangerous steroid inhaler to counterbalance the ill effects of the HFA. Since the ban I have not been able to breath and the quality of my life (at home and at work) has greatly deteriorated. I feel robbed of my life and I ask that you reconsider lifting the ban on CFC - it's a matter of life and death." Alejandro Diaz, NY September 9, 2009
"The new inhalers are like inhaling air. Nothing happens and you go on choking and wheezing from your Asthma attack. I really do not understand why they changed the Proventil and albuterol inhalers. On my pulmonary function tests, inhaling this new inhaler did nothing for me. When I have an asthma attack and need immediate relief . I need an inhaler that works. Not a piece of politcally enhanced garbage which uses the excuse that it is now enviromentally enhaced. BS. Yes, garbage, because that is precisely what this inhaler is. Thanks for listening."
Sheila Shiel-Aldous, VA September 9, 2009
"I want the old inhalers back! The new ones suck! I'm taking more nebs (nebulizer treatments) then ever, because these stupid ProAir and Xopenex do not work." Erika Wetzel, MN September 9, 2009
"I too feel that thse new hfa inhalers do not work as well as the old cfc ones. i do clean it on a regular basis because it does clog very easily, but still, in my opinion, does not work so well. please bring back the cfc inhalers!!!! our lives depend on it. thanks for listening." Christy Otake, MN September 9, 2009
"I have had asthma since birth. I have used many of these inhalers for many years (azmicort, serevent, (albuterol proventil beclovent). When the inhalers were being changed because of the environment, I knew that the PROAIR HFA inhaler was not going to do any good when used for an asthma attack. I voiced this with the pharmacist. I said without the old type of inhaler people will be dying. Thank you." Chas Johnson, MN September 9, 2009
"My husband and I both use oxygen and have difficulty getting around due to shortness of breath. When they changed our inhalers to HFA from CFC it really lowered our quality of life and ability to get around. Please change this law before it shortens our lives too." Christine Livingston, KS September 8, 2009
"With all the other crap in this country that is messing up the Ozone, why pick on this little inhaler that has helped so many. My mother has also said that these new inhalers do not help her a bit. The place I worked shut our doors in March and I will have insurance until March of 2010, but after that, I will not be able to afford the inhalers my Dr. has me on, How will I survive without albuterol. Or, will I..." Geneva Buske, IL September 8, 2009
"I just recently ran out of my "old" CFC Albuterol inhaler as every summer I have ashtma attacks. When I went to fill my prescription on file with the pharmacy they told me I had to get the new inhaler. It has been 10 days and I have never been sicker. My CFC inhaler lasted over a year. Since using the new type I have had to use it 4 - 6 times a day as I kept trying to get relief. It is ineffective and has actually made my asthma worse. I wake up every night choking and gasping for air. It does not stop an astma attack. I will be contacting my doctor to see if there is an alternative and will do every thing I can to see who was behind this change. I feel if I continue to use I am going to die."
Patti O'Reilly, ID September 3, 2009
"I've been asthmatic all my life, Im 19 years old.. These HFA inhalers do not work as well as the older ones. I have to use much more of the medication puffing 8 to 10 times for just a little relief, where 2 or 3 puffs worked in the old ones..I dont think it was very wise to make asthmatics suffer this way, how many of us have to wind up in the ER because of these inhalers be admitted and worse die..." Julian Napolitano, NY, September 2, 2009
"I have experienced first hand the effects of the new HFA's, with my asthma significantly worsening since the CFC inhalers have been removed from the shelves. While I'm all for saving the environment, it seems to me that there are more effective rules that could be implemented that would produce greater effects, and wouldn't inhibit the health of such a large number of people in our population. Thank you for your consideration." Jessica Oglesby, FL, August 12, 2009
"Bring back the CFC inhalers! Our children (and adults) are only going to get more obese, creating increased difficulties with breathing, all because they cannot do their normal exercise or daily activities because the new HFA inhalers are not effective in treating their symptoms." Susan Huesing, IN, August 11, 2009
"Albuterol HFA inhalers do not work and are extremely expensive." Shelley Puente, CA, August 11, 2009
I am tired of hearing reports that all we need to do is keep our asthma under control. It WAS under control, until the CFC inhalers were banned. I went from using my inhaler 4 times a month (CFC), to 6 times a DAY (HFA). I am woken at least
once a night with an asthma attack. Candance Dixon MI, 1/2010

I need my old inhalers back. I am doing terribly on these new ones, plus the other new steriod ones that I now need to use in addition to the daily rescue. I want these severe, sometimes unresponsive attacks to stop. My health and keeping

agree..it is time for goverment to get off of their butt's, and remove this life threating ban on CFC inhaler's. I can't believe, that these little inhaler's, can do so much damage that goverment would rather put citizen's with COPD and Asthma at risk for their life to protect the OZone layer.
Lonnie Kingery MO, 2/2010
Peter Farian GA, 2/2010
The new inhalers have no effect on me. I'm fortunate on this because they make other asthmatics so much worse. I am getting by right now using old expired CFC inhalers - even ones that are five years old are better than the new ones. The old ones I have won't last forever. Asthmatics who are not helped by the new inhalers should not be forced to suffer and die because of the minute emissions of safe and effective CFC inhalers, which are far too minimal to have any effect on the ozone layer.
Susan Miller IL, 2/2010
There would have been years and years of testing, hearings and research. The HFA's actually can cause bronchospasms when they are being used to prevent that very occurance. Please, do this--You are encouraged to report negative side effects of prescription drugs to the FDA.

I call what I have now Al Gore Lung Disease. Everytime I get a cold it goes right into my chest because the polar bear friendly inhalers are so bad. After 20 years on the CFC inhalers I am not on Advair, which is 10 times the cost. So much
for keeping health care costs down. Kermit Hansen, FL 2/27/2010
This is not just a problem impacting asthma patients, it is much broader. The HFA inhaler is ineffective and simply not fit for the purpose intended. Donna Burrell, VA 3/2/2010
In addition to the less effective delivery method of the new non-CFC inhalers, the price of the medication has risen substantially. This is completely unacceptable given that asthma disproportionately affects the poor.
Darren Raymond, CA 3/4/2010
There are plenty of other things that are more damaging to the environment. A persons health is more important than worrying about what a life saving inhaler will do. This is another example of the federal government deciding what's best for us. I resent the government telling people what is good for them. Janice Hoover, VA 3/15/2010
My asthma, which had been under control for years with Albuterol CFC inhalers, is now out of control. The "environmentally friendly" HFA inhalers not only do not work for me, they also exacerbate my shortness of breath and wheezing. I am scared and angry. I am certain that people will die due to a very bad decision. The Montreal Protocol needs to be amended to bring back the safe and effective CFC inhalers. Playing politics with human lives is beyond outrageous! Katherine Jones, Bellevue, ID 3/16/2010
inhalers on the market, or whose breathing is not controlled properly on these other inhalers, the removal of our tried-and-true, life-sustaining inhalers has robbed us of our ability to breathe freely and fully.I am one of those Americans. My asthma had been successfully controlled for the past 9 years using Azmacort, a CFC-based inhaler.I can honestly say that my body tolerated Azmacort better than any other inhaler I've ever tried (and I’ve had asthma for 27 years). I did not notice any adverse effects related to using the Azmacort.
Since losing access to this inhaler in Jan 2010, I have not been able to find a viable "substitute" inhaler that my body can safely tolerate. No other medications on the market are pharmacologically identical to the active ingredient in Azmacort, nor do any replicate its unique formulation. I have tried the other preventative inhalers on the market, but not only were they ineffectual for me, the side effects were scary and dangerous. For example, I've been unable to find another inhaler that does not raise my heart rate. My resting heart rate is already elevated to around 120 BPM due to a neurological condition called Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Increasing my heart rate any further is not only extremely uncomfortable & scary, but used daily (as these preventative inhalers are intended), it could potentially put my life at risk. Mary Greipp, Portland, OR 3/19/2010
I have never known anything but Warrick inhalers. I was born with asthma, I also have allergies that trigger bad attacks. These new inhalers just won't help with that i am forced to use a nebulizer. How am i supposed do get a job where i can plug in a machine for fifteen minutes every time i have a problem. Further more am i just supposed to wither away in my house with no exorcise or sun. I honestly fear for my life and our future. Logan Miller, Des Moines, IA 3/20/2010
Chris Keller, Bloomsburg, PA 3/23/2010
I am 30 years old and have been on inhalers since the second grade. During an attack my CFC inhaler worked within minutes to save my life. With the switch to HFA it took a lot longer to be effective, if it was effective at all. For me, HFA
inhalers cause me to go into coughing fits with in turn worsens the attack it is trying to prevent. I am currently 26 weeks pregnant and am high risk. It is important to carry my baby to term because of a problem with her own lungs. Right now my asthma is terribly out of control putting both her and my lives at risk. Why? Because QVAR (my maintenance med) and my albuterol (rescue) are both propelled my HFA which DOES NOT WORK. Carol Santo, NJ, 3/28/2010

the right kind of medicine we should let them use the one that works for them. M.zeinali, MD, 3/30/2010
Aside from the greatly reduced relief that the HFA inhalers provide during an asthma attack, I've also had the displeasure of using one before passing through a sobriety checkpoint on a US Navy base. (I'm sure a congressman could get a copy of the video from the MP's at Naval Station Guam if they asked.) I passed all of the field sobriety checks no problem and repeatedly offered to submit an immediate blood test to positively clear my name, but the damage was done... There I was being publicly humiliated because I used my inhaler. (The ethanol content in the inhaler is sufficient that if you use it within 10-20 minutes before using a breathalyzer, your exhaled air will set off all of the bells & whistles.) I could have lost my job over this, so, yeah, I was ticked once I realized what the cause of the false alarm was. Steven Badenhop,OH, 3/31/2010
trusty inhaler...which...like your Pulmonary Physician has been a lifesaver (Literally). Now...no inhaler....Try another kind...oops! You're allergic and your asthma is exacerbated. "The ban on medicinal CFCs is ill-considered. Asthma inhalers account for less than one percent of global CFC emissions, yet relieve serious asthma symptoms for millions of sufferers everyday. How is it not worse to deprive these people of the medication they need? I don't need to list the social costs that this ban will incur. "I am 32 years old; I was diagnosed with asthma at the age of 4. About a decade ago, my doctor gave me Advair to try; I was unable to tolerate it, as my asthma became worse. It's no secret that the propellant in Advair can worsen symptoms for some people, and even cause death in some individuals. Now, in order to rake in more money at the expense of the sick, the pharmaceutical companies reformulated rescue inhalers (which worked perfectly) to include a non-CFC propellant - the same propellant used in Advair. They did this under the guise of "protecting the environment." It is also no secret, if you care to do the investigation, that the CFCs used in rescue inhalers for asthma patients contributed less than one quarter of one percent of all air pollutants - in other words, rescue inhalers contributed no appreciable affect on the environment or ozone layer. So the real reason that Big Pharm did this? Why, because their patents were about to run out, and then ANY pharm company could make generic rescue inhalers!"

"Primatene Mist is literally a life saver and having it taken off the shelf for arbitrary purposes is incredibly dangerous. There are people in this country who can't afford health insurance, let alone expensive asthma inhalers - to have an inexpensive alternative that works just as well, if not better in some cases, needs to stay on the shelf and over the counter. This ban in my opinion is criminally negligent and isn't looking after the welfare of the American people as it's claiming to do so." Caitlin Siebold, IL, 10/29/2011
"People will suffer and die without Primatene Mist! Some people cannot tolerate Albuterol products as a rescue inhaler and stimulant drugs are dangerous especially in older people! I always get a paradoxical reaction to Albuterol products, which is very dangerous! And a lot of people can't afford insurance and health care!"
Karen Jay, UT, 11/5/2011
"I have insurance and cannot afford the only HFA alternatives the FDA has left me with. There was a time when I could grab a $20 OTC inhaler to save my life - now I must suck an an expensive (no generic alternative) prescription HFA inhaler that does not work at all. I am now only awaiting the BIG asthma attack that will end my life. The FDA has put junkpseudopoliticalscience ahead of American families and their decision to do so will eventually bring about my early death. I'm 31 years old, I've had asthma for 17 years and I doubt I will live to be 33. The winter is looming here in TX, cold temperatures aggravate my condition, I may not be here to see 2012 thanks to the FDA.
