This Is What We Need To Do To Get CFC Inhalers Back Again Permanently and Quickly:

We need YOUR voice.  This is the only way to get safe and effective CFC inhalers back.  We need YOU to send an email, fax, letter, or phone call to your two Senators, your Representative and President Barack Obama. These are your Four Political Targets, and you'll need to contact them every few months (contact their key health Legislative Counsels (LC) or Legislative Aides (LA), specifically).

Tell your four political targets why Congress MUST amend the Clean Air Act and legalize CFC inhalers:

1. Tell YOUR story.  How has YOUR life changed because of the CFC inhaler ban?  How do YOU feel when you see your
son/daughter/husband/wife gasp for breath with no relief?

2. Tell Congress to stop playing games with our lungs.  Asthma is very difficult to control, and the idea that we should ban an entire group of safe, proven, effective medications based on environmental junk science is criminal. (CFC inhaler emissions have no perceptible effect on the ozone layer.) Congress MUST amend the Clean Air Act to permanently legalize CFC inhalers. 

3. Furthermore, the U.S. must refuse to abide by any decision of the December 2009 Copenhagen Accord that bans HFA inhalers and mandates the transition to any other medications based on environmental reasons. Doctors must be free to prescribe the medication that works best for the individual patient. The Montreal Protocol's CFC inhaler ban broke precedent with the time-honored tradition that medication bans must be based solely on medical reasons. We MUST restore that tradition immediately, for the health and safety of current and future patients.

4. This is about GOOD MEDICINE not MONEY.  DO NOT MENTION that the new inhalers cost more. They already know this. Politicians just respond with talking points about Medicare/Medicaid, health insurance reform, prescription discount programs, and similar irrelevant blather.  Don’t give them the opportunity to turn our MEDICAL complaints against HFA inhalers into FINANCIAL complaints. They have routinely done this and we need to call them on it and refuse to accept these types of obnoxious replies. WE JUST WANT TO BREATHE WELL like we were able to do with CFC inhalers. We cannot stress this strongly enough.

1. Send an email to your two U.S. Senators and U.S. Representative.  Go to the CONTACTING THE CONGRESS website, SCROLL DOWN A LITTLE BIT, and enter your complete mailing address, then press "SUBMIT IT".  You will land on a page that lists the contact information of your Senators and Representative and provide an “ELECTRONIC CORRESPONDENCE” link to their website EMAIL SUBMISSION FORMS. This is where you enter your email message to them.

2. SEND AN EMAIL TO PRESIDENT OBAMA HERE or call the White House Comments Line at (202)-456-1111.

3. Please send us a copy of any responses you get at sponsor@SaveCFCinhalers.org.  The 2010 mid-term elections are on the horizon and we need to know who our friends and enemies are.

4. If your four political targets targets respond by citing phony environmental platitudes we will help you answer with the facts: CFC inhalers do not perceptibly harm the ozone layer nor do they cause cause skin cancer, but HFA inhalers DO harm the lungs of and immune systems of thousands of patients. 

5. If your political targets try to distract you by talking about 'costs' or promising 'healthcare reform', we can help you drag them back on point: healthcare reform won’t open your lungs, only safe and effective CFC inhalers will.

6. Finally, if your targets are sympathetic or want to help, WE NEED TO KNOW.  We’ll help them get the facts and get in
touch with other sympathetic legislators. DO IT NOW.  EVERY LETTER COUNTS.
